How generous are M&S with Credit Limits?

    My original £6K was upped to £12K when I hassled them. They wouldn't give me the £15K I was after. I was told their max limit was £15K.

    Original application scored on Experian. Limit increase scored on Equifax!

    I got a £3k limit on my new card last week and wanted to transfer £4360 from my MBNA card and they just wouldnt do it - They only upped it to £4k after alot of hassling. so it looks like i'll have to pay off the £360 and get the £4k transferred over.

    Also i didnt realise before i opened the M&S account that they dont do a "£5 minimum payment" as MBNA do - so on a £4000 tart it looks like i'll be paying out approx £100 per month (taken directly form the savings account that i put it in off course ;))

    I got a measely 1k on my card. I normally get limits of around 5-10k. I phoned to complain and ask for an increase and they said they wouldn't increase it, so I cancelled.

    This week my new card arrived with a very disappointing £4.5k - the lowest of any of my cards (highest being £16.5 MBNA) - after a lot of hassle they gave me £5.5k. I'm really disappointed as I would of expected £10k minimum.
    I'm getting the feeling that the card companies are tightening up a bit as their bad debts are increasing. They told me they couldn't give me more until they'd observed how I run my account. The £5.5k's now sitting in my bank account earing 5% and all they're going to get is minimum payment for the next 9 months until 0% ends. So I guess they're not going to up it.
  • Can anybody confirm how long it took after applying before M&S approved their application? They emailed me a couple of days after applying to let me know that they would attempt to let me know their decision in 7 days, but as of yet, i've not heard from them.

    That's about how long it takes 7 - 10 days. Can anyone
    tell me if you have to sign the separate part of the form which is about Direct Debit Guarantee. You just confirm your details, but I would prefer to make manual minimum repayments. Is it an integral part of the agreement which you have to sign or is it optional?

    do you get to know the credit limit on line when you apply or only when they send out documentation/the card itself?

    I applied for an M&S card online & it said they would email me in 48 hours with a decision, which they did. I got the email this morning saying that the agreement would be sent out in the post in the next few days.
    It said that I would be advised of my credit limit then.

    They gave me 3K but after calling I managed to get 4k, not bad at a 33% increase I suppose, but less than I was looking for :(
