How generous are M&S with Credit Limits?

Does anyone know how generous the M&S Card is with credit limits? (I guess you'll have to judge this in relation to the card limits on your other cards...)

I normally get around £10,000 after I've asked them to match my highest existing limit. Has anyone succesfully got M&S to match their highest limit?

And does anyone know if M&S have a mximum limit?

I'm just trying to decide which card to bag next....

I've just phoned them asked them to up my limit.

My limit was 5000 and I asked for 7000 - but they would only increase it to 6500. I was also cheeky enough to ask them for a 0% BT deal at the same time!
I got 6 months 0% with no fees.

The m&s person asked me the usual questions about income, homeowner etc too, dont know if that had any bearing. I have had an m&s card for a good 5 years now - including their old chargecard.

However, I also have a mbna card with a 7K limit and egg with 15K!

    Bank Charges Claimed: 180

    Debenhams card: 600 now paid
    Littlewoods: 100 now paid

Not very generous .... they are the lowest Credit Limit of all the cards I have, the next lowest being 50% greater the M&S.
It has taken about 4,500,000,000 (4.5 billion) years for the Earth to form as it is now .........
and it'll only take about another 100 years for mankind to really **** it up!!!!

My new M&S card just arrived this morning with a £4500 limit. Average for a new card holder I guess. Haven't phoned to request an increase yet.

My M&S card limit started at £5,000 and was eventually increased to £7,000 without me even requesting it.

I have recently taken up their 5.9% for lifetime of balance transfer offer which i presume was for existing customers only?

My M&S card (9 month internet card) came with credit limit of £6k, phoned to increase but they would only do so if I allowed them to perform a credit check. They said it was due to me being a new customer.

I phoned back a number of days later, and when pushing it they eventually offered me a £1k increase.

Call centre said max limit was £10k (when I asked for £12k).

In Mrs YB's case, extremely generous - her highest limit so far at 60% of salary (despite her already having another 60% shared between her first 2 cards).

They offered me 5K and would not budge so I cancelled it :( I could do with a card which will take a 9K BT. Am I being to greedy? , is it a case of just being lucky with Egg, Virgin and Cap One who gave me 10K+ limits.

M&S offered me £8K which is the highest start off limit I've ever been offered.

Barclaycard gave me £1.5K (useless as I ended up with split debt I didn't want, and I'm closing this one), Capital gave me about a £3K start off but I now have £6K limit, MBNA I've had for donkey's years (but not for much longer as I'm closing this one too) so can't remember my start off limit but have £10K limit with them now.

I've never actually worked out any logic in what they offer you to start with as it seems to be so variable.
I live in my own little world. But it's okay. They know me here.

Fishboy, is you were a new customer surely they would hvae just credit checked you anyway? Or do M&S not do Credit Checks? ....

Thanks everyone for your replies. Am seriously considering going to an MBNA card - possibly Virgin? Does anyoen know if MBNA still do 12 months on any cards?
