Stuck with BT Fibre to the property

When I moved into my flat in December 2015, I was told that I had to sign up with BT for phone and broadband because only BT can provide new phone numbers and that after 12 months I could move to any provider. As it turns out, because I have FTTP (Fibre To The Property) BT is the only service provider. Non of the other service providers can touch the equipment installed in my flat because it belongs to Openreach/BT. I am now out of contract with BT but still have to pay £59 per month for a service that new customers can get for half the price. Other providers offer a fibre service for considerably less than BT but they cant provide a service to my flat. What can I do? How can I get the same service for less?

Have you checked as their are now other providers over FTTP . See multiple identical FTTP posts .
Any other service provider is free to use BT OR FTTP but many dont so far .If none bar BT want to supply you that is the nature of the market and not BTs fault .0 -

Just not the case OR are required to allow other provider to resell their packages. There are not many who do for fttp but some.

There is a partial list of suppliers given at https://www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband/fttp-providers .
Also look at Freeola https://freeola.com/fttp-ultrafast/ and IDNet https://www.idnet.net/data_products/super-fast-broadband.php
And in a few months time, Sky should start to sell Openreach FTTP too. However, at this moment in time, they haven't published any details. But don't expect it to be as cheap as "Normal broadband".0 -

You have been mis-informed, it’s never been the case that you had to use BT , Openreach’s FTTP network is available to any ISP that wants to use it , the fact that the budget ISP’s ( like TT and Sky ) don’t offer their service over OR FTTP, like they do with OR FTTC is a matter for them, no one is stopping them.
There are other providers that can sell you service over OR FTTP , but you may find that those other 5 or 6 company’s are not budget providers , and charge more that you would like.
If you don’t want to use BT , you could always look at mobile broadband0 -
Have you checked your on line account to see if there are any offers ?0
