I had to pick somebodybup from iceland tofay and ahe had two kids and shopping, I knew it wasnt allowed to park on zig zag but wasn't sure it was that serious, it was about 6:15pm saturday roads fairly empty anyway a police guy stoped and told me off for picking someone on the zig zag white line and said that the pentality is 3 points plus £60 for this and he will take a picture of my car reg no from back of his car and just drove off and he wasn't driving a police car. I m not sure and hopping the was warning me and not actually going to take action against me. I m ver worried any advice would bw great. Thank you

I seriously doubt the police would be interested in a photo on a mobile. Evidentially I don't think it would stand up in court.0

The police guy was in a normal car as well, so I m not sure if they have camera's in the back of the car to take a picture of the Reg number and issue 3 points and £60 fine, I thought that's something they do properly and takes all your details including your licence number etc? Thank you for all replies.0

You will just have to wait and see if anything comes through the post. There is absolutely nothing you can do.0

Zig zags are taken seriously, they are there to make sure that cars don’t block visibility of crossings, for example, so stopping is not allowed. It sounds like it may be a good idea for you to re-read the Highway Code.0

If I recall accurately, as it’s been a while, parking on the zig zags is generally dealt with by way of an FPN, which needs a police officer in uniform to issue. Was the person in uniform?
It could have been an unmarked police car with ANPR fitted and these are usually fitted front and rear facing and can take stills.
If you weren’t given an fixed penalty notice at the time the officer would need to complete a Process Report book, which then needs to be dealt with by a support unit, most of which were pretty much rendered non existent by the cuts to finances. A summons would the need to be issued etc etc.
I’d be surprised if anything else happened, but how about parking like a reasonable human being? The markings are there so traffic approaching a zebra or pelican crossing can see if someone is crossing the road so they don’t get run over.0 -
The police officer was in his uniform and stoped at the side of my car in the middle of the road, he didn't pull over to stop but he said he is going to take a picture of my car reg no, I do admit my mistake I completly wasn't aware that a single white zig zag line meant no stopping at any time and since it was Saturday 6pm and not much traffic and no where to stop near Iceland I misjudge and will be reading all the highway codes again, I just hope I don't receive points. Thank you everyone for all your replies and advice.0

The police officer was wrong - it's £100, not £60. But he was right about it being illegal. I have no sympathy for you if you do get a ticket. There are NO excuses for parking on the zig-zags to a crossing. Just because it was quiet doesn't mean someone may want to cross the road, and has their safety compromised by your selfish parking. Don't do it again.0
