Historical bank charges

I have just contacted Santander to try to make a claim for excessive bank charges etc.
They have come back to advise that its company policy that they do not repay historical bank charges. Im a little confused as I thought you could claim back to six years regarding this. have they just said this in the hope I will give up or can they do this?
Anybody else had this problem?

Where did you get the impression you could simply claim back 6 years of "excessive" charges?0 -
Hi
i previosly claimed with Natwest in 2009 for my bank charges from 2003-2009 but they rejected to the ruling coming out. i have seen since that you can possibly still claim. Does anyone know if i can still claim for 2003-2009? At the time i was in financial hardship and these charges did not help.0 -
