At the risk of sounding completely clueless what do I do about the windows software that came pre-installed, with a new drive?
I did put a new drive in my previous desktop but now can't remember anything about the process. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I just told you.You prepare installation media now. If you have already moved to Windows 10, the operating system will recognise that you have and activate the new installation.
All of your data will still be stored on the old drive, so you can move it over at your leisure.
Of course you can clone the whole of the old drive and then just swap them over, but many like to start with a clean slate.
But don't worry, if you decide to go forward, we'll be here.0 -
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 You will need a USB Flash drive of at least 8GB.
I don't know anything about your particular device, so we would have to do a little preparation beforehand, to be sure of what you need to do whilst working on your own.
So perhaps a picture of the inside and the keys used to get into the BIOS setup and or Boot Menu.0 -
I have flash drive that is meant to be 8GB - will that do?
I also have not idea which keys are used to get into the boot menu and can't seem to find any sort of user manual anywhere that might tell me.
What I have just found is a flashdrive which I think I may have set up as a recovery drive when I first got the computer? Could I use that instead if I back up all my documents etc elsewhere? |t came with windows 8 which is presumably still associated with the recovery drive but I updated to 10 when I got the chance.
Office won't be on it, but I still have the installation disk etc for that.
ETA - thank you for being so patient which what are probably statements of the bleeding obvious from this end.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Don't worry about patience. It only seems obvious when you know how.
Use the 8GB Flash Drive, as the old Recovery Drive will take it back to Windows 8.
But why are you linking that with backing up your documents if you are installing the operating system to a completely new drive?
We no longer trust the old drive, so eventually will be moving all data from it.
Backing up your old drive in that way is not linked with this new install.
Though we can back up your Browser favourites so that you can apply them to your new install.
You are going to disconnect your old drive and use the same connectors for the new SSD. Then you will use the newly created Windows 10 USB Flash drive to install Windows 10 to the new SSD. Then we will install Office etc
Then we will move any data you want from the old HDD to the new SSD.
Is it this device? https://www.box.co.uk/Cube-Caiman-Micro-ATX-Desktop_1660041.html
If so, it may be the F11 key to enter the Boot Menu and the DEL key to enter BIOS Setup
You can practice, by restarting the machine and as soon as it appears to restart, press and hold the F11 key or the DEL key to see if it goes to the Boot Menu and the BIOS setup menu respectively.
You'll need to get to the Boot Menu when you go to clean install Windows 10 to the newly fitted SSD.
Next step, create the installation media. Then look to back up your Browser Favourites, dependent on which Browser you use and perhaps make a note of programs that you might wish to install0 -
Hi,
Sorry for going awol, I do appreciate the help, just haven't had the brain space to get organised.
I need to order the new SSD and am away on holiday till the second week of July so I don't think I'll have much chance to do anything much till then.. If you could keep an eye out for this thread being bumped then I'll take some photos and get everything organised in the meantime so I'm ready without faffing around any more.
Thanks again. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Hi, after a long delay, finally ready to get this sorted - didn't realise it had been so long. It is the desk top you linked to and F11 key seemed to do the trip.
DM sent.

Have you created the installation media and decided on the storage capacity that you need/want?0
