Would you fit your own bathroom?

Thank you all.
Our plumber came back with a 2.5k price but ever since hes dodged all our emails or messages asking to book in. Hmmm not ideal. Very strange.
Hubby is seriously considering just doing it himself as this man said it would be a 4 month wait but yet wont get back to us with a date even when chased.
If doing a bathroom yourself do you think removing and replacing a bath ourselves is doable ir easy to plumb up? Same with replacing a sink? It's a straight swap. Toilet we arent changing. Floorboards need to come up and replaced, hubby reckons that's easy for him to fo. Tiling the floor or vinyl tiles. So the main job is hubby fitting the bath and sink. Already have a shower over the current bath.
We need an extractor fan fitted, is that an electrician job? We need one in anyway to do the spotlights we want replacing and we want ceiling skimmed so isnt that just a quick plasterer job?
To be honest I have chronic illness. Chronic fatigue syndrome and also an anxiety disorder. The thought of having no bathroom or someone in my house all week terrifies me. I probably sound a right idiot. I'd rather hubby did the work as then I'm far more comfortable with it. Even if it takes a bit longer. He said he would take a week off then do it over so many weekends.
Hes just refit our whole kitchen and wow its amazing. So he can do rooms but plumbing I dont know.
Also vinyl tiles on floor, are these bathroom safe does anyone know? Weve fitted them in kitchen, they look like long planks like laminate. Are these bathroom suitable?
Sorry for all the questions I appreciate any advice.
Thank you

It's all well and good if everything is a straight swap but the problems (or rather challenges) arise when you have to actually start "messing" about with pipework etc and any other jobs that will inevitably arise and you'd be glad you had an expert to hand. And depending on how you want the extractor fitted you may well indeed require an electrician in to do it.0

The worst bit IMO will be fitting the extractor as making a hole in the outside wall makes a lot of dust!
Have you power for the extractor nearby, that may mean more mess?
My OH is pretty good at DIY and has in the past, amongst lots of other stuff, done 3 showers, though from combi boilers, not electric, a new bath where 2 of the walls had to be reboarded and tiled, a freestanding bath with freestanding tap, at least 4 basins, and lots of tiling and flooring. He reckons it is not difficult if you have the right tools and know what you are doing. If it was our house, he would be doing it himself with a tradesman only where required.
He works slowly and carefully, so it would take longer than getting someone in, but he would do a good job.......especially with me supervising!
For the flooring, in our daughter's house he fitted what are called "luxury vinyl tiles", these clicked together like laminate, some looked like planks, some looked like tiling. They are excellent for wet areas as not affected by spilt water.
Plastering is messy, so you would want that done early on, before fitting the new stuff, likewise the extractor, so as you will need tradesmen for that you will need to work out the order in which things are to be done, who is doing what, and organise it all, so it could take a while. Not ideal if you have only one bathroom.0 -
Thank you.
Oh we would be getting an electrician in for any electrical work, most definitely. He wont be touching that lol. Our friend is an electrician.0 -
Thank you.
The plumber suggested the fan going in the ceiling. Either way we will get an electrician in for any electrical work.
The bath is a straight swap, as is the sink. So fairly straight forward. The floor does need taking ho as the boards underneath need replacing. We have white tiles already around the walls which are fine so we've decided to keep them up but hubby is considering the wall vinyl sheets I think they are that you put in a shower, along the bath wall.
I shall have a look for those vinyl tiles, they sound ideal.
I'm anxious going without a bathroom as we dont have any other toilet in the house. The kids said they'll shiver at their friends but I thought if hubby did the work at least he doenst mind us using the toilet. It would be awkward asking a plumber to leave and wait around Haha. I'd feel uneasy.
Thanka for your help.0 -
My hubby has fitted bathrooms in all the houses we've had apart from one which was brand new. Electrics always done by an electrician though. 3 bathrooms in this house one with separate shower.
Good luck with yours.0 -
Leave the kids at granny's, you go on a craft holiday that your husband wouldn't enjoy, and let hubby crack on without interruption.
Job's a good'un.0 -
Thank you all so much.
Haha, a holiday would be fab. Maybe me and the kids should get a holiday inn and leave hubby to it for a week lol!0
