Easyjet cancelled flight 19/5/2019

Options
Hi,

We had our Easyjet flight cancelled on May 19h from Manchester airport due to a power surge in the airport which meant that the planes couldn't refuel.

Our flight was due to leave at 8pm on Sunday evening. I managed to get us booked onto a flight the next day at 12.05 although it didn't actually leave until 2.50pm. So all in all we were delayed for 18hours 50 mins.

Luckily my sister lives in Manchester so we went back to her house around 10pm. We were told to go the customer services desk and they would arrange a hotel for us but the queue at the desk was massive and we had 3 young children with us. I spoke to some people off our fight and they didn't get to a hotel until 1am.

I sent a claim for compensation to easyjet but they rejected it as they said it was out of their control.

I then tried to claim form my annual travel insurance policy and they say they don't cover internal flights. I was most annoyed about this as I had taken out the highest level of cover and I had specifically asked if I was covered for short trips to England to visit my sister and I was told yes.

As this was an unplanned day off (Monday 20th May) my husband had to take a day of unpaid leave.

Can anyone tell me if I have any come back with this? Is it normal for travel insurance not to cover internal flight delays? I am due to renew my policy in August so I want to get insurance that would cover internal flight delays.

Does anyone know if there is such a policy?

Many thanks

    Presumably a domestic flight.

easyJet have one to Belfast from Manchester.
  • Because we were travelling from Manchester to Belfast, the travel insurance company said they don't compensate for travel delays for internal(domestic) flights
