UPS Driver - I cannot believe the horrific experience

Sorry for any mistakes. English is not my native language.

On June 7th UPS driver shows up at my door with the package, says I owe £37 in import fees. I told him that had already paid import fee online and showed to him receipt. He refused to even look at receipt and said " I need reference number or pay £37". I told him several times there is no reference number and I got receipt to proof of payment has been done. But he still keep refusing to even look at receipt and keep telling me " I need referance number or pay £37"
I was got stomach pain can not even standing but had to convince him (over 30 mins!) that receipt will be proof of payment . But he does not say any other word than " I need reference number or pay £37". I told him to call UPS and give my tracking number and invoice number to confirm import fee has been paid. But again he told me " I need reference number or £37". I am living in the flat and all of my neighbour heard the argument. After couple of times saying to him to call UPS he finally agreed to call. UPS confirmed that import fee already paid and he gave me my parcel. I was waiting to him say at least sorry but instead of that he acted like he made favorite to me by calling UPS and again told me " I need reference number". What a joke!! Thats the only sentence he made repeatedly over 30 minutes anyway. I never will use UPS service again and I do not recommend it to anyone.

None of that sounds unreasonable to me; but i don't believe he was there for 30 minutes because delivery drivers do not have that amount of time to waste with one delivery!.

It's not his job to look at a receipt and determine if it is genuine or not (i could make up a fake receipt to show i paid very easily), especially a receipt which has no reference number at all sounds very dodgy.
So you saying when you pay online you get a receipt which has no kind of reference number at all and you never got any email with any kind of reference number?. I don't believe this either because if this was true then the delivery driver would have the same problem all the time.

So if we look at this logically the story is:
UPS driver attempts to make delivery and is told import fees are due. The customer claims they have no reference number for the payment and shows the driver a receipt without any reference numbers at all.
The customer is clearly told that either payment is due or a reference number is needed but the customer refuses both options. The difficult customer then refuses to find the reference number themselves and insists the delivery driver calls UPS.
The driver goes out of their way to do this so the customer get's their parcel but the customer doesn't even say thank you.

Yes - UPS made a mistake and incorrectly told the driver that fees that had been paid were due. The customer tried to prove they had paid, maybe not using the correct method, and instead of being helpful and resolving the problem the UPS driver was rude and argumentative.

Another way of looking at the same situation.

Perhaps the UPS driver's first language wasn't English either and there might have been a bit of miscommunication or misunderstanding?

Thank you for your reply. I believe you never paid import fee online but calling me liar.
Yes, It's his job to look at a receipt and check the invoice number as on the receipt clearly write " Your UPS driver may require a copy of this receipt to complete delivery. You can print this receipt, and receipts are available from this website for 30 days after payment " So I did.
Also there is no reference number on the receipt . Invoice number or tracking number clearly shows that import fee has been paid before delivery.

UPS can beat even Yodel hands down as complete failures, and that takes a special skill . .

If this experience is "horrific"", how on earth would you describe a truly awful road accident or something similar you were involved in or witnessed? No doubt you've been "traumatised" by it all and will expect compensation and a hand-delivered, hand-written apology from the CEO.

Upsetting? Yes. Irritating? Yes. "Annoying"? Yes. "Horrific" - Hardly.

The OP already said that English is not their first language. They may have used too strong a term unknowingly. You're just being mean and trying to pick a fight. It's pathetic.
