Flight delayed but without notice

Options
If you booked a flight to come back to uk at 9PM...you then sorted out hotel booking and transfer to airport based on this.

Then by chance you find out from the transfer company that there is no flight at 9PM, its been delayed to 12AM what can you do if anything about this?

Bearing in mind:

  1. Its been delayed over 3 hours
  2. You have to sort out what to do for 3 hours in some cases this could cost you
  3. you have to cancel or change transfer time, this might cost you extra or you might not be able to do this and then have to take expensive taxi instead
  4. youev arranged for pickup at the destinaton airport but have to reschedule this and it might cost you or cause inconvenience - say someone had to take time off work to come and pick you up
  5. airline says they sent you an email - but you check everything and never got anything
  6. airline then says it out of their hands as flights can change without warning at any time

EU261 - assuming an EU airline. Any consequential losses claim via your insurance.

Not necessarily so. Depends on the reason for the delay and when the “delay” occurred.

From what the OP states this could have been a rescheduling of the flight well in advance rather than a delay on the day.

As for the OP’s question on what can be done about it, simple answer is OP is responsible to check and reorganise transfers (as it sounds like a DIY holiday) and to amuse themselves during the wait for the new airport transfer. I doubt travel insurance would come in to play either.

Perhaps the OP could add clarity on when they became aware of the flight time was change, why the times differed, plus flight and route details vs original flight booked.

This sounds more like a change in departure time rather than a delay.

I became aware of the flight delay/reschedule about 8 hours before the original flight time, by chance. They had not notified me by email/phone. They never gave a reason except that it was out of their control as flight times can be changed.

had you been checking your booking regularly on the airline website?
how long before the date of flight did the airline say you informed you of the change? (notifications can often end up in spam/junk which is why it is good to keep an eye on the actual booking)
did you try and check in 24 hours before the flight?
