They gave me a £5 off voucher in the shop last week.

Guess how much the book is in the shop?

    That's correct~ £18!

I told them I was going to order from Amazon (£13 delivered).

    What a lovely company.

As previously pointed out, everyone needs to avoid whsmith particulary for books, as they are falsely inflating prices.

More recent examples also include, danny dyers autobiography, whsmith website £9, instore £19 !!!

Michael Macentyres biography whsmith website approx £10, previously instore £10 3 weeks ago, and each week gone by raised £2 each week, now £16 !!!

All whsmith discounts / vouchers are rendered useless and valueless, you do not save anything, in fact you are over paying even when using vouchers / discounts !!

ASDA have been doing 2 for £15 on certain books (including the top 20 biographies etc.. for example michael macentyre - 2 for not even the price of one compaared to instore whsmith), and even waterstones is cheaper then using a voucher with whsmith, nevermind other supermarkets / stores.

Whilst I agree that Whsmith are often overpriced initialy,I dont agree that vouchers are useless...Ive had a lot of bargains this christmas...Jamie oliver 30min meals..reduced to £13,used £5 off a £10 book, got it for £8--Nigellas Kitchen, same offer, same price.....Ronnie Woods, half price at £10..used both the £5 off AND the 20% off and got this(and Chris Evans for only £4 each),also got Guiness Book of records for a fiver..admittedly now prices are higher, but end of Nov/start of Dec books were lower priced and discounts higher.
PS/I also recently used the £5 off gifts voucher and got £12 worth of gifts for £7....these gifts had also been reduced by 20% so an even bigger saving.

The £5 vouchers can not be used with the 20% off vouchers btw, its one or the other, if you have used both on the same item / transaction you were lucky, as it was a mistake and staff have been warned not to do it.
  • Don't for get that there's a voucher in The Telegraph Sat/Sun (18 & 19 Dec £1.80/£1.90) that you can use in your nearest WHSmith.

    See here for more details.

Yes they can:D...I used them this year and last...first time last year sales assistant said Till would only accept 1 or other voucher but tried both anyway, even she was surprised that both were accepted,I got Guiness book of records for £4 last year doing this..thats why i used them again this year...another poster got the Jamie Oliver 30 min meals book for only £6 odds this year by using £5 and 20% off.

NO, they do not accept both on the same item/ transaction, and if they did, it was a mistake, you were lucky.

I have checked with the store manager, customer complaints / service department and even emailed the ceo !! and had this confirmed.
