  • Oh well done to your daughter, that's so lovely!
Sounds like the car purchase is well thought out for both the short and longer term.
Have a great weekend, enjoy the last couple of days of being 34! X

Yeah, we are super proud of her and whilst she has an idea of what the fund raising has done, not quite sure she fully understands how great what she has done is.

The car choice has been difficult...probably more than it needed to be I just wanted to make sure I was getting a decent deal at a reasonable price and something that would give me some reliable transport. I know at the price point I am paying there will always be risks but I am not in a financial position to go spend 3-5k on a car at this stage and finance is not an option I want to go down either.

Hope you have a good weekend x

    Hey All,

Hope everyone has had a good day, despite more crappy COVID news.  Final night shift tonight and its going be an admin night so plenty of tea, treats and music of the festive kind to see the night through hahaha

I managed to get a new car collected and sorted today and quite happy to have got it sorted out. It’s a car that has definitely been well looked after and has full service history. I expected a few age related marks but it is a really tidy car. The guy also offered to put me another 12 months MOT on it but that would have delayed collection for a few days which wasn’t ideal due to situation so he knocked me £50 off to cover next MOT cost but it meant the money saved paid for the £30 annual tax (this alone saves me over £200 a year) plus I could put fuel in without impacting my original outlay. It was recently serviced and had oil and filter changed and air filter changed plus a new tyre. Its defo bigger than my previous and its diesel so will save me in fuel too as MPG way better than my ST was for sure.

Also my partners father knows a few car guys and has managed to sell my ST to someone who buys MOT fails who races them in series races at Knockhill….somehow they have agreed to pay £550 for mine :O so that will cover the cost of my annual insurance when its due too. So all in all it’s worked out in the end. I suspect when he gets here he will maybe haggle down but to say a few days ago I considered it scrap value I see that as a small win.

I still plan to ensure I put away £50 a month towards maintenance each month to ensure I have funds in the event it needs work so I can get done without delay, I did have a tiny amount saved towards next year insurance so I will transfer this over to car maintenance to start up the funds

Xmas wise I have a few little stocking fillers to get partner but everything else is all done and despite the restrictions and me working over xmas I intend to try enjoy and then put this year behind us.

MSE wise I need to look at my overall budget and input my wage increase and adjust my savings goals and targets

Only 10 hours left on shift…..haha

well done on the  car - I was going to suggest ebay rather than scrap - as I have always got £200-£300 even w/o MOT and quite serious stuff wrong.  People buying either strip it for parts or are good mechanics and can source cheap parts and fix it up cheap - so don't get knocked down to far
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine

Happy Christmas Eve Eve all :)

Last few days seem to have flown by...been a busy few days.

Monday was birthday so that was a nice chilled out fun day with family and ended with a restaurant delivered meal which was amazing. Despite it been a different birthday to my usual birthday it was a really lovely day. Yesterday, I ventured out into Leeds to get the last bits of Christmas shopping done and get the final bits all sorted. It was weird being out and about a few days before Christmas and it not been crazy busy. All the shops and places that were open were very well organised. We finished off the evening with a visit to my parents to doorstep deliver their gifts and for daughter to see them, it seemed to cheer up my parents as we haven’t seen them for so long now.

I am due to work tomorrow and was due to work Christmas day but a colleague (who doesn’t celebrate xmas) has offered to trade shifts so I can spend day with daughter which has really made daughter happy. The colleague is leaving and wanted her last weekend day off so we traded, it sounds like pretty early into the new year I will go on to my new rota which will be nice. I expected it to be a little longer now someone else was leaving but it looks like her position and my current position are getting filled pretty quickly.

I hope everyone is doing as well as they can given the current climate we are in, the constant changing isn’t the best for people and whilst I understand the reasons the impact it can have on people in other ways I think isn’t being fully considered. It hasn’t impacted our Christmas plans too much as we had planned on it been celebrated at home.

I have messaged landlord to see if okay to pay rent early due to being paid early, whilst I now have more restraint I just think it was better to transfer it to him so its sorted and I know what I am working with. The rest of the direct debits are still the same so I have transferred the money to account that I don’t really touch to ensure they are covered too. I have went slightly over the budget I had set for Christmas but being honest we haven’t done anywhere near as much this year as we would in a ‘normal’ year. I am praying 2021 is better but I think for sure the early part is going to be very tough.

Thanks mate. Yeah the debt payment is getting paid at end of month in line with usual payments, that will take me to 1k in total :)  I am currently working my way through plotting out the 2021 financial stuff. I am actually stunned that I came into this year hoping to be debt free and I haven't quite met that goal but this year as thrown up challenges I was not expecting so all in all I don't wanna be too disappointed, I know that keeping up my current payments will mean I am debt free by March 2021 which is something I never ever thought was possible

Wow! 2020 coming to an end....and boy what a year it has been. This year has been full of so many low points for me on a personal level and its has taken a lot of soul searching and reflection but I am ending this year feeling in such a better more stable place personally and financially than I began it in and I feel closer than ever to the people in my life who matter. Thank you so much for the continued support and encouragement this forum is full of such amazing people who impact the debt free wannabe crew in more way than they probably know.  This year has brought me some really positive things as well as some not so positive but here is to 2021!

Happy New Year to all - here is hoping for a better 2021
