Selling a valuable number plate
So I've been tasked with selling a number plate for my mother-in-law and I'm not sure of the best way to sell it. I think it might be quite a valuable one, but I'm not 100% sure. In my research I've read that the main websites overvalue them and if it does sell they take a large commission. Also, I've read that selling via eBay or gumtree won't get it that much exposure.
Does anyone have any advice on getting it valued? And the best way to sell it?
Thanks

Well firstly is it a good plate........nothing worse than seeing a private plate with S for a 5....8 for B.... black screw heads....larger or smaller gaps......and still no idea what it supposed to say0

Thanks for your reply. It's 'BET 2' and we have a retention document for it. I was thinking it might be popular with betting companies and I read that the lower the number is after, the more valuable the plate is.0

It's only worth what someone will pay. I think the numbers a red herring as 365 would be worth a lot more if they wanted it.0 -
I always wonder if the plate....TO55 ERS is/was issued0

BET2 is definitely going to sell well - popular dictionary word, single digit.
2BET is for sale currently for £86k, BET7 for £52k, 3BET for £36k.

That doesn't mean they'll actually achieve those prices, of course, but we certainly aren't talking about the dregs of the tenuously-misspelled...
Get in contact with some of the plate agents, and find out which one you find least unpleasant to deal with...0 -

Government specifically excluded any rude ones, even vague things
BL0x JOB has never been sold for example, nor BA57 ARD etcSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

You say get it valued others have already said it's what someone is willing to pay for it and what the retention holder is willing to let it go for.
Plenty of examples
LEW1S may be of some desire to you, but then what would you be willing to pay?
I do have a plate with my initials and single digit, it has sentimental value to me, so if someone came along and offered me £10M for it, it still wouldn't be for sale.0 -
The best way is to stick it in an auction.0
