Doesn't interfere at all. It is completely independent and costs nothing, unless you choose to subscribe to, say NetFlix or Now TV?

Id get a Roku box myself.

You mentioned about watching youtube videos on your tv, why not a Chromecast, you cast (think you do it via youtube) and you cast to the Chromecast and away you go.

I wouldn't, as you need a third device to be the source. For NetFlix for example.

    Moving on from that
Netflix considers these Streaming Media Players to be only ones certified to play Netflix HD video:

    Apple TV
    Google Chromecast
    Roku
    Amazon Fire TV
    Google Nexus Player
    NVIDIA Shield TV

I consider a Roku Box the most viable option out of those. Inexpensive and simple to use.

Are you refering to what I said about getting a Roku box or casting youtube to a chromecast ?
Yes will need to buy a chromecast but thats it.

I was thinking chromecast might be easier for the OP than trying to sign in on the Roku box.

The Sky Q box has Netflix and YouTube built in.

If you renegotiate your Sky contract, you can use the opportunity to upgrade to Sky Q. It cost me a one off £20 but I saved more than that on the monthly bill.

Here is the simplest example of a Roku box; https://www.roku.com/en-gb/products/roku-express

Others may have better suggestions based on their experience.
I'd second that, it's what I have, plug & play via a USB into slot in TV, and I'm older than OP so age is not a problem there;) Very simple steps

Are you sure? AFAIK you need a third device when it comes to a ChromeCast. TV, ChromeCast and then something from which to Cast. Such as from the NetFlix App on your mobile phone.

He should get rid of the Sky TV contract altogether and stick with just the broadband connection.
Then he can buy an NOW TV Entertainment Pass or Movie Pass if there is something interesting, rather than being locked in month after month.

Crazy to hand out so much money when you can spend just £25 to get all the Apps you need with a Roku.

One thing worth mentioning, is that when you create a Roku account, it appears that you need add credit card or PayPal details to complete the process.
    You don't.
Firstly, to be clear, it costs nothing to view most of the content via the Roku box. Adding CC details is only for if you decide to purchase paid content, such as NetFlix.

But it isn't necessary if you only intend to view free content.

So you can bypass adding CC details by utilising this link when the time comes; https://my.roku.com/signup/nocc

I have just set up the Raku box.
    It’s interesting reading other comments.
We have Sky because the grandchildren like the kids programs,it’s only the basic package no sports or movies.I have my broadband with Virgin.
We like to record programs and watch them later on catch up.
Is there any other platform that offers kids programs and the option to record programs?
