Travel Insurance

Hi guys,
First time posting so any advice is appreciated - we are travelling to London from Northern Ireland in September 2019 for a family break. Now I know we will be covered medically through the NHS as we are all British Citizens but should we take out Travel Insurance to cover us for luggage, flight delays etc? Is it needed when traveling within the UK?
Thanks

It is not "needed" to go anywhere but you would be stupid not to buy it.
Given you are taking a flight then yes, take it out.0 -
It's entirely up to you & your attitude to risk. Personally I wouldn't.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Your choice, but I would personally never fly anywhere without it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

If you're booking accommodation for at least 2 nights, then travel insurance will cover you if there's a problem (no good if you're staying with family/friends though)0

Personally I wouldn't bother for a UK trip, although I'd be covered anyway as I have an annual policy. But if I didn't I wouldn't bother buying a specific one, except maybe if I'd booked expensive non cancellable hotels, trips etc. The airline are liable if they lose your baggage (within limits) and you can get compensation for flight delays - see the separate board.
But it's likely to be quite cheap - get some if it makes you feel nervous not having any.0 -
All of my holidays for the past 10 years have been within the UK and I've ALWAYS had insurance cover for both the UK and Europe..... anyone tried to get back from the Outer Hebrides/Shetland/Scilly Isles/Alderney to the mainland for an emergency?..... that's what insurance is for.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3660

If you’ve paid for flights and hotels then I would.
If you are staying with family and have personal possessions cover on your household insurance then I probably wouldn’t.
It’s about weighing up the risks.0
