They are both high, the gas especially. I am a "high user" in OFGEM terms and used 768 gas units over the past 5 months.

Unless the OP meant 2161 kwh of gas.

    2800 kwh Elec @ say 16p = ££450
    2161 kwh Gas @ say 3p = £65

    Gas standing charge 5 months @ 25p/day -= £38
    Elec standing charge 5 months @ 25p/day = £38

    = £591 plus VAT @ 5% = £620
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Hi there I am needing some help and advise.. I switched to Eon November 18 as they were apperntly the cheapest according to u switch.. So the direct debit was set at £97 a month grate thats £10 cheaper than the previous supplier . So after Christmas they told me I needed smart meters l.. so they were fitted at the beginning March and was told they were free 🙄 well I could be wrong but I don't think they were free.. Anyway now April came and they told me they were increasing my direct debit to £160 from £90 after many phone calls getting passed about different departments desided to switch back to my previous supplier.. Now today received my final bill and its near £500.. So thats near £1000 for 5 months gas and electricity.. Any advice on what I can do as I don't think this is right 🤔

Tbh I couldn't actually tell you what the meter readings were before they were changed.. But when I switched the details were accurate as I done it the same way I done it in the past and have never been stung like this before

Hello 1991andy and welcome to the Forums.

Already some great advice on here - thanks all. To confirm, make sure we've used actual meter readings wherever possible. This way the bills will be an accurate reflection of the amount of energy used.

Did we use the start readings you gave us when you joined? As molerat says, the closing/opening readings at the meter exchange will have been noted by the technician and attached to the new meters. Have these been used?

The closing readings will have been given us by the new supplier as part of the change of supplier process. Check our closing readings are the same as the ones your new supplier opens their account to. This will make sure you're only paying once for the same energy.

Happy to confirm Benight's post. We don't charge to replace existing classic meters with smart meters.

Monthly Direct Debits are estimates of future usage. They're based on current prices and what's been used previously. If you were on a fixed price tariff, the unit rates wouldn't have changed. Payments, though, can still go up and down as they need to cover the amount of energy used.

Please let us know if you've alternative readings to the ones we've used.

    Thanks 1991andy.

You should not have been charged for the fitting of a smart meter (i.e. replacing an existing non-smart meter).

How much were you charged? Please show us the bill detailing this charge.

Hello Benight and you're spot on.

We don't charge for fitting smart meters in place of existing classic meters.

    Thanks Benight.

EON so far is also more expensive for me than what I’ve paid for in the past compared to what I’ve been charged previously I already had an electricity smart meter installed and a connect device for gas which is like a hub all seem to cost me more money in the long run and not worth it, seriously considering a tent in the woods at this rate, my home is supposed to be an energy efficient home as well yet I pay double the price of friends and the house is half the size ! And we’re often out and about and not home using any energy !!
