Three 30-day PAYG SIM - Feel at Home - activated from date of purchase

On recommendation from this site, I ordered a Pay As You Go SIM from Three, ahead of a holiday to America at the end of next month, in order to take advantage of their very economical 30-day calls / texts / 12GB DATA offering. It cost me £20.00 all-in for the 12GB package; the international roaming element is branded "Feel At Home."
A quick word of warning though, order one of these JUST BEFORE you travel, as the SIM is live from the date you purchase it and NOT from when you first use it.
So, in trying to be ahead of the game with regards to my trip, I've wasted £20.
I'm sure this will be mentioned in their small-print, but Three don't draw your attention to the fact

The more sensible option would be to order a free sim at any time and then add the add-on to the sim a day or 2 before you leave.

That's just what I've done for every trip to the US for the last few years.
