Wickes lorry crashed into my Gate

police are a waste of time. Lucky if they turn up for a murder.0

We had an incident with a gate and an ocado driver. An email with photos of the damage to their customer service team was referred to their legal claims department. They paid up very quickly with no arguments.
I’d certainly expect Wickes to have a similar process/ team to handle this. Incidents with delivery drivers must be fairly regular occurrences.0 -
There is nothing stopping you contacting the insurance company who provide cover for the lorry and lodging a claim directly with them.
Once they find out about your proof (the photographs), they may well pay out without too mush pushing.
For a payment of £4.50, you will receive the policy number and name and contact details of the insurance company.

Wickes have confirmed that it is their driver but won't tell me who it is or which depot he is attached too (although the Manager that emailed me is from the Exeter depot so I'm guessing that might be a clue :¬)) As has been discussed, I'd rather not go through the insurance as the premiums go up as soon as you even call them to ask about a claim, (much less actually making one) and I do feel like as Wickes employee caused the damage, they should rectify it. We might try and discuss with Head Office or maybe see if asking for a resolution on social media might be more effective.
I think I am going to go down the Small Claims route if the above doesn't work - does anyone have any general advice please?
Are you sure?
I have a feeling although the vehicles are have Wickes livery they aren't owned and operated by them.0 -
jeneferwilson wrote: »thank you - I did try and report it to the police and waited to get through for about 45 mins, then started to explain what had happened and the lady said that they would not deal with it - I think I offered the reg number (as we have it on the photos) but she wasn't interested. Maybe I could try again if you think they should deal with it.
Can you report it online? Failing that go into a police station they either take the report over the counter or give you one to complete.0 -
Just do as suggested earlier and claim directly from the lorry insurers.
That way, you don't involve your household insurance company at all.

They even tried to tell me that the driver wouldn't have had any reason not to own up to it because the branch are 'self-insured' so the branch would pay!! That didn't make a lot of sense to me!
Its possible the driver is just denying it and his manager is backing him, too many recent accidents?. Try head office with the evidence you have.0 -

The insurers will have to receive a claim form from the insured party, before they pay out anybody.0 -
I’d be tweeting the photo to them and get mates to retweet, social media for companies don’t like things like this in the open0

No they don't.
If an insurance company is liable under S143 of the Road traffic act 1988, they are liable whether or not the insured party submits a claim.
The link provided by hermione granger shows that claims can be made and paid out without the insured party having any knowledge of the claim having been submitted.0
