Effing Virgin customer non-service help
Options
I have an old Nokia 3410 for occasional use. When I bought it it was on t-mobile and I have since used asda mobile and virgin with no unlocking issues.
I then did not make an active call for long enough so my number with virgin was deactivated.
Saw O2 now had a better deal so got one of their sims but am getting the message "phone restricted" when I try to use it O2 tells me means I am now locked to Virgin.
The problem is that Virgin customer service is as much use as a chocolate teapot. They did not have a clue what I meant when I said I was trying to use a SIM from another network operator, denied that my phone could possibly be locked to them then said that as my number was now deactivated there was nothing at all they could do to help and I need to go back to the shop I bought the phone from.
Which was TJ Hughes, and is long gone.
Does anyone know a) if it's now possible to get an unlock code from Virgin if I can talk to someone with some basic understanding of the English language or b) any other cheap ones that piggyback off them and where I don't lose the credit if I don't make regular calls.
Thank you.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Google comes up with quite a few free unlock solutions for the 3410 https://www.google.co.uk/search?client=opera&hs=0hB&lei=5ffzXOG1Auyi1fAPiq6zyAQ&q=nokia%203410%20unlock%20free&ved=2ahUKEwj48pbLmsviAhUqxoUKHcjcAZAQsKwBKAF6BAgAEAI&biw=1880&bih=970

Virgin did not lock your phone. phones that old came locked in the first place it they ever were.
Every use you describe has been a EE operator (main or MVNO) so all likely to work in the phone.
You finally tried to move to a new netqwork, you finaslly noticed the phone has been locked forever.
Is the phone 2G? They will switch it off at some point you know. but if you want to keep it look around for ways to unlock it. And stop blaming innocent parties that probably know nothing about phones from the stone age ;-)0 -

Innocent parties who fail to understand what using a sim from another network means? We didn't really get much past that, hence the frustration.
No idea if it's 2G or not. I use it for calls and texts for work and other people I have no wish to give my main number to.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

The Nokia 3410 will be 2G only: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_3410 as it's just over 17 years old. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0
