Hello all,
First post so please be gentle if I’ve done anything wrong!
Just wondering if anyone can help shed some light on this issue before I call out an aerial specialist.
I’ve just moved into a new home and trying to connect my “Samsung Smart Free Sat TV”. On the roof there is an existing satellite dish with 2 cables feeding through into the lounge through the wall (that looks like has been cut) so just 2 joint wires hanging out. Next to it is my plug socket with “the TV aerial socket, Sat 1 & Sat 2 socket” I’ve tried connecting the aerial socket in which doesn’t seem to work. So I bought a satellite cable and plugged it into Sat 1 and then behind the TV into “Satellite Main” which doesn’t work. I spoke to the previous couple who lived here and they said they aren’t sure as they have only used Sky, I don’t need Sky and just want to use the TV with the “Freeview or Free Sat”. Am I missing something obvious here? Do I need a freesat box or something?
Cheers all

If the cable are cut they probably don't go to the socket, get some 'F' plugs connect directly to the TV.Tvhelp2019 wrote: »I spoke to the previous couple who lived here and they said they aren’t sure as they have only used Sky, I don’t need Sky and just want to use the TV with the “Freeview or Free Sat”. Is there a TV aerial in the loft? Is it a fairly new build? If so, then quite often the builder will put the cabling in to the loft, but then it's up to the new owner to install the terrestrial aerial or Sky dish. Perhaps the people who were there before you just went for the Sky option.
As Inner zone said, if this was Sky Q then the LNB on the dish will not be suitable for your TV as they use a special type. However, you can swap it out for the normal one.0 -
Just had a quick look at Sky Q and don’t think they had this, but can’t be 100% certain0

Ah thank you guys. Yes it’s about 5 years old. Will have to look in the loft and maybe get the F plugs0

Yes, in order to get FreeSat, you need a Free sat box (which is different from a freeview box)0

The reason I asked is because the Sky Q twin output LNB is not compatible with anything else.0 -
