Is the ombudsman service independent assessor really independent?

For marketing preferences, if a company asks you do you want to be contacted via sms, email, post, and you select email, and they send you SMS. I think that company will be in more than a spot of bother.
'more than a spot of bother'? - how serious are you?OceanSound wrote: »There is a good reason, I cannot receive postal mail at home. Has any of you considered that I many have a sick parent living with me that makes receiving postal mail impossible. If I don't receive the postal mail how do I become aware of what is going on about the complaint. Why is it so hard to honour someones communication preference?
But you clearly DO get postal mail - otherwise how would you know they were communicating by post?OceanSound wrote: »We respect peoples culinary preferences, why not their communication preferences?
Because culinary preferences are real-world preferences - and may even be life and death preferences.
[Not sure why I'm responding to this thread, or indeed why anyone else is!]0 -
This isn't making a mountain out of a molehill. It's much less serious than that.0

Posters like this drive me nuts. Wasting the time and effort of several different bodies just to try and make £50.
This is not what FOS is for. Stop being so damned selfish and find another way to fill your time.0 -
The title of this thread - independant only if I win but if they do not agree with me it's all a big business stitch up.
I have said previously on other threads a referral to the Ombudsman should be charged at £250 with the proviso that your complaint be upheld and compensation awarded then you get your money back.
Far too many timewasters.0 -
It seems they've made a human error, addressed it, and apologised. I'm not sure what more you expect them to do - fall at your feet apologising profusely and offering you thousands in compensation, perhaps? Get real, and as others have alluded to (including the complaint handler), perhaps spend your very valuable time doing something more constructive.: )0

This makes absolutely no sense: what is the link between having somebody to care for at home and having a letterbox in your front door? To my mind it casts considerable doubt on everything you've said in this thread.0 -
Not being able to have post at home can have serious consequences. For example a speeding ticket or county court claim form all have to be delivered by post.
Not responding to them can create a bit of a mess.0 -
I've literally never heard of there being a disease that can be held by a person that makes them so deathly ill that they're allergic to post. If letters arriving through the door somehow causes you a severe risk of harm or death then you should be under strict medical supervision, not at home.
In other words, I don't believe you, and think you're drastically overplaying a very petty complaint because it makes you feel special to get lots of attention. Something like Munchausen's syndrome. (Ombudsman's syndrome?)
Once again - have you considered getting over it?urs sinserly,

I could be wrong but genuinely don't believe that OP is chasing money, but is motivated more by a desire to see an organisation act in accordance with its published policies.Posters like this drive me nuts. Wasting the time and effort of several different bodies just to try and make £50.
To be fair, we don't know anything about the original complaints to FOS so they may all have been entirely justified, although I'm sure we all have our suspicions given the numbers involved! The independent assessor is there to review how the FOS has handled a case, rather than evaluating the merits of the case itself and its outcome. This is not what FOS is for.
So, as I posted earlier, I do agree with OP that there is some sort of legitimate complaint at the heart of all this, even though the allegations of collusion are laughable and the matter is undoubtedly pretty trivial in the general scheme of things!0
