Hmmm - They won't win, of course - but just think what would happen if they did. What would be the cost of paying pensions from 60 to 'men who identify as women' ? And would 'women who identify as men' (sorry, really struggling for current pc terms here!) refuse payment until they reached male SPA ?

You make a very good point. In a way the equalisation of State Pension Age was not just a great leap forward against sex discrimination but for trans rights as well.

Until State Pension Ages were equalised, full recognition of trans rights was unaffordable as too many men would have self-identified as female at 60 to claim State Pension (and been free to switch back afterwards). The equalisation removed this obstacle to legal recognition of self-identification.

There are still anomalies, as demonstrated recently by the guy who won £1,000 from BrewDog because they refused to let him buy a pink beer which was £1 cheaper than their regular beer (it was a promotion to piggyback on the "pink tax" furore) until he declared that he self-identified as a woman. The judge ruled this was sex discrimination. And that the plaintiff's rights had been infringed by forcing him to unwillingly self-identify as a woman. BrewDog unsuccessfully argued that at the point he bought the beer the plaintiff was a woman and there could be no harm caused by his having to identify as a woman.

But these anomalies are generally minor in scale compared to the billions that the Government could have been on the hook for if men had been allowed to claim their State Pension at 60.

Therefore self-identification, right or wrong, could only become a realistic possibility after State Pension Age was equalised.

Progress in the field of human rights always has more to do with economics than politics. Sexual equality was helped immensely by the fact that after World War 2 it was uneconomic to keep women out of the workplace due to the shortage of working-age men.

In the unlikely event that WASPI look like getting any success we could sic Labour's terf-hunters on them.

Then there's a host of other groups, mainly on FB. They tag along with whoever promises them their £48k cheque. Just doesn't quite happen like that.

You forgot to mention the People's Popular Front of WASPI. She will not be pleased at being left out.

Of course women in general were never kept out of the workplace. Some middle class women were expected not to work, in emulation of the upper class, who didn't need to work and were largely free to do what they wanted. Working class women often had no choice but to work. In 1911 one of my grandmothers worked in a mill, the other was in service. After marriage one became a dress-maker working from home, the other was a f(welsh hill )armer's wife. My mother started training as a nurse when she turned 16 in 1944.

Yes, these champagne-swilling, first class-travelling WASPI women certainly need the cash ('earned dues' I think the Backto60 group call it).

In 2019, I can't believe this is still an issue. It was done almost a quarter of a century ago, and those who claim ignorance need to get over it and ask themselves why they didn't know about it 24 years ago....

Then there is Waspi Campaign 2018 ( with Anne Keen, one of the original co-founders) who have now changed the I from Inequality to Injustice and joined up with BT60.

Keen’s Groups now fallen out with BT60 in a squabble over a poster. :rotfl: You couldn’t make it up!

    Does that say first class?
I don’t know whether they paid for the uplift themselves and took their own champagne, but it’s not good for the image.

They’re all bloody greedy. Don’t seem to care two figs about prioritising those in Poverty.

Do you have a link to that, please.
I'm on my phone only and not great at searching.

Just read a few Backto60 tweets and never read such a load of tosh in all my life (and after 12 years as a member of MSE, that's saying a lot). :D

Can’t post link as I’m now blocked by her on Twitter. Search posts for @ochnaw and you should find the ‘tiff’ :)
