Quite often this is offered as a addon to home ins and can be 6 months free. Very easy to forget then.

I just had this happen and wound up here. To add some clarity for others:
Despite taking out and paying at the time of taking out my Household insurance (i thought so anyway) the full premium, i subsequently had a direct debit taken out over a month later for £39.60 to AZP HE Cover.
The insurance i took out included Home emergency cover AND i received an email from Halifax saying that the full premium was 235.29 including the Home emergency cover and that i had opted to pay 235.29 in one payment, it actually transpires that at the time of taking out the policy, they took only 195 ish and the home emergency cover aspect was indeed due by one direct debit of £39.60.
I don't recall that being clear to me at the time but after doing the digging, it also hadn't been clear to me at the time that there was indeed 2 separate payments - one by Debit card and one by direct debit. Maybe i'm just getting old and forgetful...which reminds me - off i go to cancel the direct debit before it gets sucked away again next year without me remembering

Don't forget that cancelling a direct debit does not necessarily cancel a contract!
Unless you also cancel the contract with a company then they can still come after you for payment by other means if the direct debit has been cancelled.

  • I sussed this - it’s motor assistance. Can remember who with (maybe green flag
  • I’ve got one of these. Apparently it’s when we added boiler cover on our Halifax insurance policy. They must use a sub-company who takes it as a separate direct debit.
  • I got the same £43.68 debit from AZP HE Cover.

It was the Home Emergency cover renewal for a cancelled Halifax home insurance policy. Apparently, as it is a separate product, the home emergency cover isn't automatically cancelled when you cancel the home insurance policy.

    I emailed
halifaxhomeemergencyservice@allianz.com to both cancel the old policy and get a refund of the £43.68.

  • I’ve just noticed the very same on our JA, we have no idea what it is either, they’ve now taken it for a 2nd month.  We’ve just taken out Home Insurance with Halifax but I’m positive this wasn’t approved.  I’ve asked the bank to refund both and cancel!
