Maybe there are some that are doing it on the cheap, but most that I see on YouTube have pretty decent vans which don't come cheap even before being converted to a living space.

Didn't realise they drive around with no MOT or insurance. That's reckless and putting innocent lives at risk, so quite apart from the fact it's illegal, if that's what they're doing then they should be ashamed. I'm no old conservative bore but putting lives at risk because you can't be bothered to work for a living? Shameful stuff.

Most of them are not driving around.

Only if they have to move for some reason, and then they do it in the early hrs of the or if when not many people around

The idea is to save money, and do it stealthily, any old vans you see on industrial estates or anywhere could have people living inside.

Again it’s a consequence of the gap between historical ratio of property to wages

There are some amazing vans for sale these days for the cost of a few months rent of a flat in a city.

These are mobile flats on wheels that you can sell again at any time, no land tax to pay and they are portable

Envy does not even come close to describing you.

Could you expand a little more on just what it is that I'm apparently envious of?

No problem though, we convinced them it best they move on

Am I the only person who can't read this without imagining someone who aspires to be one of the villagers from Hot Fuzz?

I'd never heard of stealth vans before, so thanks for the link AG47. Personally I can't get enraged by the idea of people choosing to live like that if they do it in a way that is considerate of others; it seems a little narrow-minded at best to take exception with how someone lives purely because it differs from the normal way.

Of me and my rental properties and my own personal home paid from it, you are not the only one.

What bothers me more is where are they emptying the buckets they must be using for toilets. You can't empty a chemical toilet down a normal one. It has to be emptied into a chemical toilet system The reason we got plumbing was to help public health so does this mean that we now have a lot of people with no access to sewers?

We have rules about picking up after your dog but what about the ones for picking up after people living in vans or does it just get chucked down storm water drains?

Most of them are likely going to their workplace/local gym/24 hour supermarket to make solid waste or shower. I'm not sure where they'd pee, though.

The vans are usually glorified tents, there isn't much room for much more.

I suspect most vans parked in residential areas or industrial estates will need to move around pretty regularly in order to remain stealthy. Especially with no MOT/insurance, they aren't going to last long before being reported.

I assumed most of the users of them were taking advantage of the freedom to travel, and it was a more temporary set-up which allows them to spend a few weeks in a city before moving onto somewhere else.

I can assure you, no-one here is jealous of you. For all your supposed wealth, you come across as a deeply unhappy individual. I personally would rather be poor and happy, than have such a complex.

I wasn't aware that 24 hour supermarets had showers? As for the peeing they probably do it just anywhere.

Why would anyone be envious of people having rental properties?

I could see people being envious of someone having an Olympic medal, it of them being especially intelligent, or having been part of the team who found the Higgs, but why would someone be envious of owning rental properties?

Head of trading in a bank, inventor of the trapdoor function, married to a beautiful, kind and loving wife, that could inspire envy, but owning houses that other people live in?
