Changing phone number when moving

Probably my best bet would be to see if the previous owner wants to take their number, but due to similar reasons to why I don't want it, which are unfortunately too confidential to explain here, I doubt it.
Thank you to those who have tried to help, your information has been useful and hopefully might help anyone else with the same problem.0 -
I'd work the other way, tbh - assume that the number will change, and be surprised if it doesn't.
Sure, you won't get the previous occupant of the house's calls, but you will get the previous user of that number's calls. And they may be just as numerous/intrusive/whatever, or more so. There simply are no previously unused phone numbers...0 -
Yep, what AdrianC said. I've moved house many times, and they always give you a "new" number, i.e. one that wasn't previously tied to that address. But it will have been tied to another address (or five) previously.0

(Unfortunately in this case there is a very specific problem with this number related to one of the previous occupants, which I can't go into here.I'd prefer pot luck with any other number! We'll be Ex-D anyway, and TPS registered, so with a bit of luck the 'hangover' calls to any other random number should eventually die out.)

We need a landline as we do not have dependable mobile reception.
You might not necessarily need a phone connected to the landline though. A number of phone companies (including Vodafone) allow calling over wi-fi."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0 -

"What do you need to get Wi-Fi Calling?
A Pay monthly Red Extra or Red Entertainment plan, or a Red or Red Value Bundle."

We have precisely zero signal on any network at home, with Voda being the least-worst locally. Which means that having a contract is utterly pointless - so means we can't do wifi calling.0 -
Wifi calling is no good for emergency calls, power can go out in a fire.
You can get cell boosters (not wifi) that i think plugs into the router, Or just a relay booster that picks up the signal outside on the roof and repeats on a indoor unit.
Sure Signal uses your broadband connection to provide a 3G signal for up to eight devices at a time. £69 one off.
