Energy meter very strange situation&urgency

Options
This is a very intricate story so bear with me please as I really need to sort it out somehow.

I rented this flat in sept. 2018 without even knowing what a gas top-up system is and how it works. Beside from being an annoyance it didn't pose serious problems up until now;

My gas meter (not my boiler) is defected (battery error). I have called my landlord who said British Gas is the supplier.

I have called British Gas, who said maybe Ecotricity is on the meter
----//
Ecotricity, who said Bulb
---//
Bulb, who said Npower
//
Npower, who said nobody is my supplier and that somebody has to takeover.

I said they should, they said they can't, I called British Gas again. They were very excited until I reminded them that the meter is broken and they said they can't takeover a faulty meter. Excellent.

Stuck in a loop with no gas (showers, stove), I've called my landlord again who repeatedly said its not his problem because the boiler is landlord responsibility the meter is not. His only very insisting suggestion was calling emergencies to say I smell gas and then they will fix it, he literally won't do anything else but suggest this. When I tell huim that its his property and problem as well he says he will not call and that I have to sort it. I have a contract up until sept. 2019 but am willing to leave today if not for contractual obligations. landlord backstory:

he seems pretty shady and grubbingly money oriented. I am not used at all with the UK and how things go but if its cheaper than rent I am willing to go to court, because I believe I'm in the right: Property had no working oven for months, there is mould, neighbors had bed bugs that they paid for to be exterminated, neighbors don't have a contract etc.

This problem has been going for a long time.

I have read of these kinds of problems on the forum but

1.I am paying for my gas because it is top-up
2. I don't have gas because meter is faulty and no one assumes responsability because I am not in the grid
3. I would sue anyday to get out of this situation as I don't have 7 years to fix this as I've seen on the forum and I don't want to pay full rent for a property with no gas. It is truly mad and I can't tell of a simple way to sort this !!!!ery out.

    I suggest Citizens Advice as your first step .
    Explain the problem clearly dont start rambling about bedbugs and 7 years and court and grubby landord .

    Pop your details in here and what does it say?
    https://www.findmysupplier.energy/webapp/index.html

    Sounds like a prepay meter, what happens with these when the internal battery dies is that the valve inside closes as otherwise there's no way to keep track of the usage (some do have traditional meter numbers but most of these don't).

    Issues with the gas meter are not the landlord's responsibility, that's the supplier to rectify.

    A so called “Official Company Representative" requesting contact via Twitter or Facebook is quite frankly unprofessional and pathetic customer service.

    Have you considered google to identify who supplies you?

    Or perhaps look at who you pay. :cool:
  • -called citizen advice only thing they said is landlord should handle it
    -checked online grid, I am not listed
    -it does have a meter number and I used it to identify it with all of the aforementioned companies

    Look at your receipts for your top up payments, they'll tell you who its being paid to and therefore what company is supplying your gas.
  • I top it up at paypoints, I can't recall who was on the receipt but I'm sure I called them as well as I remember being confident this will be very easy to handle at my first call with British Gas. They all say they aren't my supplier and they don;t want to take responsibility over my faulty meter, no matter the company.
