Hi everyone. We’re on holiday in Greece and on the first day my son has come up in spots that are (yet confirmed) chicken pox. We are insured and have flown with tui (who won’t allow flight back until 7 days after last new spot has appeared). My question is about insurance and accommodation, it’s likely my husband will need to stay here while I fly home with our baby. Does the insurance have any obligation to keep us in the same hotel / can we pay the difference? And given that we will have spent the whole time in the room do we Gget any compensation for a ruined time? Thank you in anticipation for any advice. Appreciate we are lucky it’s not more serious!

Does the hotel have room for you stay on?

It might be better to get the spots confirmed or not as chicken pox, might be worrying for nothing

Definitely not asking Tui to do anything as no-one’s fault. .

But yet you asked if you can screw some compensation out of someone :rotfl:

From reading the few posts from the OP, I'm assuming that they probably have had some conversations with friends/family and maybe hoped they would be covered for something like this happening.

You have to remember that not everyone reads this forum all the time.

OP - Unless you can categorically state that TUI or the hotel are at fault (which you obviously can't), then it's a non starter, I'm afraid.

All of your questions can be answered by your insurer or the documentation.

You need to speak to your insurer, sooner rather than later. Even if it is only suspected chicken pox at the moment you need to speak to them so they can start arranging anything as needed.

You wont get compensation, either from Tui or the insurance company, that is not how it works.

Yes that’s exactly it. Wasn’t asking tui for anything and I’ve no idea if insurance covers for this kind of thing. Am guessing from the responses it doesn’t. Thanks again everyone.

Your insurance might well cover for you staying on, if necessary, but you need to do two things. First get a doctor to give you a diagnosis and then speak to your insurers. They won't be able to help you if you just phoned up and said ' my son has spots'. They'd likely just tell you to take him to a doctor. If you're on a package ask your rep or the hotel to find you one.

my son contracted chicken pox in Florida some years ago. Our insurance moved him and I to a hotel (we originally stayed in a villa with the rest of our family) and also gave us a daily allowance for food.
    I couldn't fault them.
