This can be normal and happens on every phone I've ever had or set up where I've ported a number to and from networks or from different sims.
But fortunately I know my own mobile number so it doesn't bother me. If you need to know your own number to give it to somebody there are other ways to find it - most networks provide their own app that will tell you or on occasion it can get added as a contact on the Sim itself.0 -
samsung s6 , android 7 old supplier was plusnet , new supplier is virgin
old sim (from plusnet) is now dead when fitted in old phone0 -
The "My phone number" in the "SIM status" settings for my (Android) mobile shows as the number that was associated with the SIM before I ported my old number across.0

I have the same on my phone. (Huawei P9 Lite, Android 7.1, giffgaff SIM).
Every phone I've had has been the same with a giffgaff SIM - My Number is Unknown. (My work Iphone 6S with Vodafone shows My Number OK, and also provides the means to edit it).0 -
thanks , the number was visible when i used plusnet (ee) , but new sim is devoid of number on virgin (ee)
he only difference i can see , is that plusnet and others ask you to ring up with the sim number and they allocate it to your existing number , however the virgin was pre loaded vin number and could be used immediately0 -
Normal for me
Previously samsung on O2, now Nokia on O2 - all normal0 -

I'm the same on a Xiaomi A2 Lite using Android 9.
I use 'What's My Number' https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mynumberwidget.app since I can never remember the damn thing.0 -
Number doesn't show for me on Virgin either (using Mi Max 3).
Someone at V told me it's something to do with their sims? No idea if that's true or not...0
