Will my V6 box still work if I leave Virgin Media

Hi,
So the honeymoon has come to an end and VM now want to charge me ~£50 for their Player bundle (phone, TV, broadband).
Would my V6 box still work for freeview if I were to cancel the package?
Or, if I do move provider, will I need a new set top box? All we are after is the freeview so presumably we wouldn't need to pay for a package...

Yes it will work, but you wont have it as you have to give it back.0

They ended up offering me £31 a month on a 12 month contract to stick around so I went for that. Changing would have been a faff.0

Ring them up and tell virgin you wish to remove the premium TV package as it is too expensive. (have in mind a figure BB and phone costs elsewhere)
e.g Now TV fibre £25
When asked if you want to keep freeview, say you are unsure.
Get them to give you are price for phone,bb,freeview.
What VM will often do is say you need to return your V6 box, but on day 30 will say you can keep it. It doesn't always work. So you should research what PVR you need to buy if this falls thru (but don't order it).
They will need to give you something to watch freeview on, so they may as well let you keep the current box.
This may also be true if you remove TV all together, so don't be afraid of that option if the cost is silly. They love to keep customers on the triple services package even if it means giving you freeview for free!
As with all VM deals, check your contract online, and in the likely event it is not the cost you agreed, phone them up within 14 days of the phone conversion to get it corrected.
Recorded premium programs will no longer be viewable0 -

Rubbish! No BT line at my gaff, just VM. Do have an aerial on the roof. Get all the free view channels and the ability to record, catch up tv, EPG, app on phone to set recordings, and apps on box such as Now tv. £30 eBay, no monthly subscription (except for BB) job done.0 -

The OP (which the post you're replying to was aimed at) is looking at cancelling all of their VM services including BB, @brewerdave is stating that you still need an aerial and broadband (of some description) to use the BT Youview box.0
