Does anyone have any comments, good or bad, about the Microsoft Surface Pro 6? While it's not somewhere I would normally consider Currys PCWorld currently have a good offer on the i5 with 256GB SSD, £150 off the normal selling price and a Typecover thrown in free.

I notice that today John Lewis have reduced their price for the same model by £200 - it doesn't include the Typecover but does have 3 years warranty.

That Currys price is actually very good. Microsoft's own shop has it for £899 in that configuration (so cheaper than JLP), but with a Typecover thrown in makes it extraordinary value. Although I might be tempted to ask JLP to price match (if you have a reasonably local one with a Currys nearby).
I'm just about to get one ordered through work, and I see more and more adoption of them across different companies I interact with. Colleagues that have them rave about them, and issues such as battery life appear to have been addressed. Would recommend a pen to go with it as well.0 -
Oh, is that the Currys known the length and breadth of land for it's world class customer service? Cough get John Lewis to price match them.0

I had a Pro 3 and found it excellent. It's a tablet first, and laptop second. The stand can stop at any angle, unlike the first 2, and your version is faster, has more storage, and is slightly slicker.
Criticisms thrown at them these days are that it uses the proprietary (but common, and nice and magnetic for when you trip on the wire!) power connector, instead of using USB-C. And of course, the price, which you're tackling. The keyboard is great, and the trackpad excellent.Oh, is that the Currys known the length and breadth of land for it's world class customer service? Do your research, walk in, buy product, walk out. Hope you don't need to take it back. But sure, I'd rather give JL the business.0 -
I think the problem with the price match is likely to be that JL will say that their included warranty is much better than Currys so it's not a like for like comparison. And if you add in KnowHow at £9.99 a month it probably makes the Currys total higher than the JL cost.
So it's really a question of do I want the extra cover that JL provide or just do what almillar says, walk in and buy from Currys and hope it never goes wrong!
Good to see positive feedback though, that's tipping me towards buying.0 -
I've just finished installing our corporate OS on 60 of them for our execs. Nice machine but the only problem I see is that the video connector is mini-dp which I thought an odd choice. I also did the Book 2s at least the had a USB-C as well as USB3 to use with a video adapter0

I'm not really bothered about video connector, but I did notice in a review I read that they felt it was a bit odd that there was no USB-C or anything better than USB 3.0, although I think I can live with that.
Anyway, I've put in a price match query to JL so we'll see whether they accept it or not. I just hope that the Currys offer is still live by the time JL respond.0 -

Will do, they say they normally reply within 24 hours so I would hope to hear something later today. I'm not expecting them to say yes but if you don't ask you don't get, and I've known them to stretch their rules previously.0 -
JL have wriggled out of price match, although not for the reason I was expecting. The one that Currys is selling is black, while the one the JL sell is platinum, and the different colour is the reason given for not matching. To be fair Currys also sell the platinum version and it is at a higher price than JL, but it seems a bit like taking advantage of the small print.0
