Odd paragraph spacing

Whenever I post to MSE the paragraph spacing is all wrong.
I pressed Enter once between "wrong" and "I" - fine but I'd rather have a blank line after the paragraph.
I pressed Enter twice between 'paragraph' and 'I'. Not so fine.
Happens with all browsers, I have to manually edit the post to clear it up. What's going on?
I'm using the 'New masthead, fixed width, recommended' skin
