Will your old frames take the new 20mm double glazed units. As far as I'm aware all new units have 20mm spacers, pretty sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong.

Would be handy if you explained why then we would all be as knowledgeable as you.

You can get slim versions ; I'm pretty sure they're made for retrofitting older sash windows and the like. Some of our older windows have had the treatment.

Probably being pedantic over using the term all when it is in fact the majority. ;)

Try a double glazing repair company if you have one locally, or price up buying new sealed units from an online supplier to fit yourself. Just make sure you check your measurements.

I replaced a number of sealed units myself. Tried firms that would do it for you but prices were very close to full window prices. Hence I bought online and fitted - pretty straightforward. I did however measure two of them incorrectly (not easy to measure the thickness) so I had to re-order, but as order times were long I found a local company that were even cheaper so my advice would be ring round local glass suppliers.

If you have externally beaded windows then that is another reason to replace the whole window - it is very easy to pop a bead lift the window out almost silently - so easy for someone to break in!

You can order any size spacer between 4mm-20mm in 2mm increments.

First example I came across, many, many others out there. We replaced a 14mm patio door (not from these people) a few months ago.

My OH's mom thought she was going to have to replace all the windows in her property, got a local double glazing guy out and he said only a few needed the glass replacing, the rest of the unit and other units were fine, cost a few hundred rather than thousands and was done in less than half a day.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

I would say get a few quotes for a refit of all the windows. A lot of companies do finance and it will add more value to your home in the long run! Plus you could upgrade to a different material/colour finish of windows.

I don't think trying to replace the glass yourself is a good way to go like others have suggested, I bet in some horrible loophole your home insurance could be invalidated by not being certified to do this :/
