Do i need to really replace all of my windows instead of just the glass?

I have 15 windows which have broken down and now have a white mist and water inside of them. The sales guy said i could just replace the glass which is a cheaper option and i would get a 5 year warranty on the glass. But due to the plastic window frames being so old it could happen again and to other pieces of glass as the beading on the outside is failing with the age of the windows, the long term option would be to replace the lot.

Is this correct that very old windows the beading breaks down which causes the break down of the double glazing glass or is he having me on?

Thanks

So the beading does not fail? Or if it did it would not cause the glass to break down and mist up + have water inside of it?

The seal is on the windows, and the beading just makes it look nice; I can't see a problem if the frames are sound.

Thanks for your help he just kept telling me the frames are 25-30 years old and i may be potentially wasting my time :S Do most people rip the lot out and start a fresh after 20-30 years? This is my first home which is an old house so unsure what to do

The bill for the glass alone is going to be around £1200 as there is so many which have gone :(

It would depend on the quality and state of the frames.
My UPVC window frames are well over 30 years old & in perfect condition.

Double glazing firms aren't in the business of repairing windows, they are in the business of selling windows and are well known for having some of the most high pressure and high paying sales jobs in the industry.

Just had my 20yr old patio door windows replaced, they had blown and misty. Use a local replacement firm that deals with misty windows They should pack it better and will tell you if they can't do it.

The units themselves are different these days and far more thermally efficient.

Fact is, the handles and hinges etc are also going to start to fail so i'd be looking at the cost of replacing the lot for the sake of less hassle going forward.

There are many different pricing strategies out there, so I'd be looking for properly good value on new units, personally.

But I wouldn't believe someone who said the beading affects the sealed units. They don't.

I had all my glass on the front of my house replaced last year our frames are at least 25 years old. the person who did them said as long as the hinges are OK it would be a waste of my money to replace the frames. This was just a person who was contracted to a well know company to fit their windows just doing it as a job on the side. I had 2 Bay windows and 1 flat bedroom window the cost was £680

Will your old frames take the new 20mm double glazed units. As far as I'm aware all new units have 20mm spacers, pretty sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong.
