Scottish Power Quote query

Hi
I'm planning to change my energy supplier & so I'm getting quotes.
I know my last 12 months energy usage so I'm using that to get a quote.
With Scottish Power I put in my energy usage & it gave me a monthly figure of £162 per month & said that was based on a family of 4 & 2 bedrooms.
I corrected that to 4 bedrooms & the monthly figure dropped to £142 per month.
I would have thought that indicating we have a bigger house that they were presuming would push the quote up not down.
Am I being dumb ? Can anyone clarify why the number of bedrooms makes such a big difference ?
Thanks
Jen

The figures are only ever estimates and the direct debit amount, they may bare sod all relevance to your actual usage.0

You will get better quotes by using a price comparison site as many have special deals which do not appear on the energy suppliers own website.
A list of approved sites can be found at https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/consumers/household-gas-and-electricity-guide/how-switch-energy-supplier-and-shop-better-deal/compare-gas-and-electricity-tariffs-ofgem-accredited-price-comparison-sites0 -

I have no idea what you have done, but I just got a quote from the SP website.
It starts off by estimating your usage based on an assumed number of occupants and bedrooms.
It then allows you to update the assumptions. You can update using actual usage figures. You said you had those figures for you and would use them.
If you use those figures, the cost is calculated based on the consumption figures you entered, and is not affected by the number of occupants or bedrooms.0 -

Which of those comparison sites shows a better quote from Scottish Power than can be obtained from the Scottish Power website? :huh:0 -
When searching for other suppliers tariffs, the size of the house and it's occupants only come into play when there is no reliable history of the previous years consumption figures, and even then it is just a Best Guess
You have the consumption history, so use this on a few Comparesion Sites - I always include Switchwithwhich when searching - and by the way, search for GAS ONLY and then ELEC ONLY options as separate suppliers are often cheaper than Dual Fuel from one supplier0 -

Who knows without trying them all?
I got a better SSE deal through uSwitch than was available from SSE themselves. So the recommendation to use comparison sites is good advice.0 -
Don't use number of rooms - for a best figure you need 12 months worth of actual usage. Then read your meters monthly and understand your bills.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

My advice is to steer clear of S.P. but it may be too late . Check them out on Trust Pilot !0
