Two choices: get a cheque book or buy a postal order. No other options.

Best of luck with that idea - my bank charges £25 for a bank cheque. Which ones provide them free, out of interest?

I withdrew £15K from my mum's (I have LPA) account at Yorkshire BS to put into another account that pays better interest and they provided a cheque at no charge. I suppose that it could have been free because it was in her name, I've not tried to get one payable to anyone else.

Phone DVLA and pay by card?

They don't offer that I am afraid.

Or if you don't want a cheque book, ask them for a bank cheque made out to DVLA (or whatever the relevant sequence of letters is for a replacement licence) at no charge.

I will try to call my bank for that, although this is getting out of proportion to be honest, so much time and/or money spent for a simple document exchange (count the fuel getting to the post office, the waiting in the queue, etc)

The only reason this is "getting out of proportion" is that your bank do not routinely provide you with a cheque book - and you've not previously requested one.

They're not used every day now, sure, but cheques are still a real-world payment method.
