Hello

I want to exchange my EU for a UK driving licence and they ask me to send them £43.

How do I send them that amount?

I don't want to pay huge fees for a postal cheque etc.

I don't have cheque book.

Thanks!

You could use a postal order https://www.postoffice.co.uk/postal-orders

Unless that's what you mean by a "postal cheque"?

Can they not send you a direct debit slip to fill in and you send that back(also would they not request you to surrender your EU licence?) so you'd have to sent that anyway. get both sent at the same time.

Mate it's only £5.5 to send a postal cheque with that amount and another 70pence to £2 to send it.
Is not as huge as you are saying especially when we talk about driving license. When I exchanged mine I paid a max of £50-52 all included (1st class signed for). I always use this service when dealing with driving license/v5/dvla. Better to pay more than be sorry.
You pay £50 to exchange it but save hundreds on car premium, proof of address, etc. For me is a fair deal.
When I exchanged mine the difference in premium was exactly the amount of fees for exchange. I still done it just to have an ID/proof of address/uk DL.

    Later edit.
Waamo is right. You need to send an postal order. 12.5% of £43 is £5.37 plus second class (if you want cheap). Is written on last page of D1 form.

Then why not get one for just this sort of occasion?

Otherwise buy a postal order - your concept of 'huge fees' is out of all proportion to the real cost.

Do they still issue cheque books?

You currently have a non-UK, EU27 driving licence. You want to exchange it for a UK driving licence.

    But you aren't UK resident?

If you are UK resident with a UK bank account, then just ask your bank for a cheque book.

Or if you don't want a cheque book, ask them for a bank cheque made out to DVLA (or whatever the relevant sequence of letters is for a replacement licence) at no charge.

Best of luck with that idea - my bank charges £25 for a bank cheque. Which ones provide them free, out of interest?
