well did you ake the advice given earlier?Did you check what appliances if any are on?
Did you turn off at the mains?

No one here can explain the usage - only by visiting the property and investigating can an explantion be given.

If you like, I'll go and look for you - my hourly rate is £30 plus travel costs.

Not sure if that is sarcasm or if you are trying to be patronising. Either way it doesn't come across well.

As my OP states, the house has been empty. I haven't been able to visit as I live 250 miles away.

All I can think of is that the immersion heater may have been left on by the tenants and it hasn't been picked up by the letting agent on move out.

Which led me to the point of asking if I should suck this up or pursue the letting agent for not fulfilling their obligations.

We had the same when we moved out of our house. The only things I could think of was the timer on the heating and the clock on the cooker. I just paid up and moved on.

As you do not know whether this is a meter error, or caused by genuine usage an if so usage on what, I don't see how you can pursue either the utility supplier or the agent.

Either suck it up or verify the facts.

We contacted the energy company and they wanted about £70 to check the meter. No brainer to move on.

A very rough calculation gives about 80 watts per hour over that time period.
Could be a light bulb left on somewhere, have you a loft light left on when tenants cleared the loft. Or somewhere the agents did not spot.

If you had evidence of them not doing their work correctly, you could pursue them. This might have entailed visiting the property, or sending someone living closer to act on your behalf, but you chose to do neither. Instead, you asked on this forum for people to diagnose the issue remotely, which we cannot do. We can only make educated guesses.

As things stand, it would be simpler and much more time- efficient just to pay up and be grateful the property is off your hands.

I'm surprised you needed someone to explain this.

Did you ask the agent to go check it, and turn of the power?

If so, you can certainly claim for the 17KWH or possibly all if they found they left a lamp on.
