Roaming
I'm currently in Lanzarote, and this is the first time I've 'roamed'. I'm with Virgin and I'm currently connected to Orange.
The phone is operating as at home, but I've now had a voicemail and when I attempted to get it, I got a message saying that this service wasn't operational, or words to that effect, and that I should dial 470 for info.
Does this involve me in any charges?

You’ll not incur any additional charges for using your phone there. You just need to manually dial your voicemail number in international format. It’s the same as EE’s - +447953222222I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0

Thanks for your reply, and although I got through to voicemail, when I put in my mobile number, as instructed, it said it wasn't a valid number!!!David.0 -
The international voicemail number for Virgin mobile is +447458333222 (according to their website) even though they use EE.
This is what I found.
Apologies that you haven't had a further response from us on this. In order to pick up your voicemail messages abroad, you need to call the voicemail number: To pick up your messages, ring +447458333222, access your voicemail, press the # key, and enter your voicemail PIN (which you'll have set up at home).3 Apr 20180 -

Ahh it must have changed when they did their technical change at the beginning of the year...I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Well I haven't a Pin for my voicemail, never needed it to access at home, so I guess I'm stuffed.
Oh well, I suppose I could leave my phone on all night, but with the sound turned off during the night, and then at least all calls will show up in my logDavid.0 -

When I dial that number, I'm told that calls to that number aren't authorised, or word to that effect, and to dial 470, which is a message in Spanish which I don't understand!!
When I dial that number, it's coming up in my log as Voicemail, but I have to dial 470, which is in Spanish. A very poor service from Virgin!!!David.0 -

Are you sure all your bars are lifted?I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
I don't understand!
If you've never roamed before you may have in international call bar on the phone, this should have been removed before you left the UK.
The message you're getting in Spanish is because you're connected to the Spanish network you're trying to roam on, not Virgin...0 -
My phone is working perfectly well, I simply can't get intomy Voicemail.David.0
