  • hi there

i don't know where you live, but normally you can get temp work (especially at this time of year) with no problem. i wonder if your OH is having difficulty going back to work after his previous experience (confidence etc).

has he had treatment for his depression? what you do need to discuss with him is either that he needs to go back to work or he needs to be signed off if he cannot work - i know it is a fine line, but he has to take some responsibility. i can tell that it is you that has all of this on your shoulders.....

do you have a joint account? he does really have to reduce his spending according to his income.

i wish you all the best x

I have sympathy for your situation, but your B/F needs to get a reality check - he signed up for the mobile phone - make him pay for it. Oh, he doesn't have an income !! Maybe he should have thought about that before he quit his job.

Sorry to sound harsh, but if you are going to let anything get over limit - make sure it's in his name and not yours as a bad credit history will definately jeopordise your Mortgage Advisor job - they check your credit file before starting your training !!!

  • You are working so hard, and you are doing everything right. You are addressing the problem early, and have taken positive steps to reduce your outgoings.
If your bf can get any kind of job, even shelf stacking in the local supermarket, it will help you both. If he has had depression, I'm sure that being out of work is not helping his mental health.
You seem to have quite a sizeable mortgage, so I'm thinking you may have an extra bedroom, is there any chance that you could get a lodger, you are allowed about £4500 a year tax free if you take in a lodger.

P.S I notice that everyone has asked about your TV Licence, but I am assuming that you are on the higher rate for the first 6 months, and then it will be halved.

P.P.S If the mortgage is in joint names, do you have any unemployment/sickness insurance??

  • I'd Just like to thank everyone on this board.

It has given me the guts to sit down and really think hard about my money situation.

Allthough I have made some options that I haven't wanted to, and wouldn't have in a normal situation, I have had no choice but to.

I have cancelled, gym (£60 saving), cat (£6.15) saving, mobie insurance (£5.99) saving, orange (£30 saving).

Lowered my budget to (£60 - petrol) (£80 - shopping for 2 people and a cat).

Taken out a loan to pay off all my debts which is £250 per month, whereas my outgoings are at the moment £225 + £100 for credit card minimum payments. Also from this money have paid a years council tax and ground rent, service charges.

Defered my MOT, Servicing, Tax and insurance savings until we are on our feet.

Signed up to a load of cash back sites, and started selling on ebay.

Put my CV on monster to enable me to get a better job on about £5500 more per year. And encouraged my partner to get a job asap, (he has an interview with Thomas Cook Shops next week, and getting hundreds of calls, which is great news)

In all our outgoings have droped from £1878.04 to a whopping £1423.35. Which is fantastic.

Any money that we can save we will be and be paying lump chunks off the loan to help us pay that off quicker. We have worked out that if i get the pay rise i want of £5500, and my OH gets a job for £1000 per month which is £14500, very doable with his experience, I'd be taking home £1500 compared to my £1200 at the moment and he will be taking home £1000. We have then given ourselves £150 each to live comfortably, we can then start saving for next years Car stuff (tax mot ins), council tax and maintenence, we can then save £500 per month to pay off the loan of £23k, meaning that the loan will be paid off in about 3 years. WHICH IS FABULOUS.

So thank you all again for you help and support.

You are all stars, and you will be seeing a lot more of me in the money savings boards, trying to pay off this loan lol!

Love and hugs to you all.

    Em

Well done on all of your cost cutting. It will be worth it in the end.

One thing though. You intimated that your OH left his last job because it made him ill. Was this harassment/intimidation/bullying? If so he may have a case for constructive dismissal and could claim compensation. If he was in a union they might be able to help. But there is a time limit, so better to investigate it now rather than later.

Brill news about the job interviews, we will keep our fingers crossed
    chev
I want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?
  • Well he didnt actually leave because it was making him ill.

We were both working for a top bank in a call centre as mortgage advisers.

Situation was that one of our very close freinds left and the manger told him to pass out the applicaitons that he had done so that other people could look after them.

My OH took some of these as well as myself and one day he called me up when i was at home letting me know that he had been suspended. An internal investigator had called him into an office and started accusing him and this bloke that left, of putting their heads together so that when my OH got bonus (which he was hitting bout £800 pm) they would share it.

He was suspended for about 1 mth and they kept bringing him in to investigate further.

We had a friend who did all the rotas who was backing my OH to take action and stand up to them, however on one day she turned round to me and said EM tell him to hand in his notice and gave me a sort of look, the kinda look that says i know something, but i cant tell you.

So after diliberation he did rather than be sacked for fraud (which wasnt his fault) and have the police involved.

I on the other had didn't here a thing about it, neither did other freinds of ours who had applications passed to them.

I think it was a case of who can we make an example of here, and he was the unlucky one.

Worst thing is now is that on his reference it says left pending disaplinary investigation.

Hes just telling future employers that it was due to sickness, as he had over the limit last year. It's such a big company that they will never divulge any more info as the HR department deals with millons of staff world wide.

    Thanks anyway chev :p

What a rotten thing to happen. :( The quicker he gets another job, and then another job after that in due course, getting away from having to get a reference from this employer, the better.
Well done on all your debt busting so far. :)
