  • I'm trying, hes telling me that hes looking for work, but i dont know what the hell hes doing in the day as i am at work too.... lol!

As i work in a bank i often have to work saturdays, just had a brain wave of asking the manager to give me the £60 for working a saturday rather than having the day off. I work 2 in 3 saturdays so i dont think it would hurt until i get a rise.

I have thought about doing some extra home work myself, such as personal typist etc. but im not sure about how to go about getting into this, or personal ironing and dog working (should i post out flyers for this, how much should i charge).

I really wanna get this debt paid off in a year, so im looking at £460 per month really. Need all the dollar i can get lol!

He was very silly with his mobile to be honest he broke his phone and couldnt get an upgrade so got a brand new one with £50 per month contract silly boy, i went ape when i found out. We are ebaying things, and one thing he has though about is buying xbox live 48 hour codes to sell on for a profit, he could make an extra £30 per month plus by doing this, and just paying £4 for the codes and then the ebay listing costs.

How would i go about cancelling the gym? I dont really want to cancel weight watchers because i have put 1 and half stone on in 12 months and its depressing me even more by being a fat knacker, id prefer to be thin and in debt than fat and in debt.

I take packed lunches to work which is a great help, and try to do things like casarole, stews to keep the shopping down.

I often dont spend £90 on petrol but it is always around that much, my mum lives 1hr away too so i do use a lot. and i work 1/2 hour away from where i live too.

Plus point for today is that i have looked out the window and its snowing YAY!

    Electricity £40.00
    Home phone and internet £23
Mobile £35.00 (me) £80 (oh) - I don't wish to be rude, but if he isn't earning anything then who is paying for his bill? You I assume? This will HAVE to go until he's working again.
Ground rent and service charges £67.67 - ouch, what's that for?
    Life cover £14.49

    Sky £17.50
    Weight Watchers Subscription £17.95

I have £220 in vouchers so far for my holiday which i have recieved from the last 3 weeks. The incentives at work are running until xmas.

He isnt on JSA because he quit in September, he has been looking for work during the past 2 weeks on the net but has had little joy, so now im getting him to look for anything, he has applied for going places £10500-£12500 which is better than nothing, which he can do whilst looking for another job.

He has applied for a c/c to pay for xmas which has a £500 limit. no doubt he has used up the limit here. then i have changed all my c/c's across to
0% for 13 months, but its still £2500-2700 (ive never been like that before, and im really upset that i have let myself get in this situation. my credit rating is probably awfull by trying to get all the c/c changes and buying the house in june.)

Do you think it would be worth him doing matched betting during the day??? as he is at home 24-7???

Thank you for you response, means a lot.

Hi Em and welcome to MSE :)

My comments are above in red, I hope they help a little.

You have all my sympathies regarding your OH being out of work and not contributing anything to the household (we're in a very similar situation), but he needs to realise that some major cutbacks will need to be made while he's out of work. His mobile for example - £80 a month? I see you mention he's been diagnosed with depression? Might he be entitled to Incapacity Benefit then? Might be worth looking into. It's not much, about £250ish a month, but every little helps, so they say!

Do keep posting, you'll get lots of help and support here.

  • Hi Em, welcome to MSE! :T

I can only echo what everyone else has said...... and u need to be firm with ur bf.... Is he *actually* looking for work? Is he claiming Jobseekers allowance? Also, as mentioned before, can he claim Incapacity due to the Depression?
While he is not contributing to the bills, some sacrifices must be made, starting with hos phone bill!.... closely followed by Sky.

Hope that didn't sound too harsh!

This is a good idea ONLY if you're in control of your *stress* levels, you dont want to be in danger of burning the candle at both ends.

  • Thank you to everyone, and their comments, they arn't harsh at all its just exactly what i need, fresh eyes looking at the situation and advise on areas where people may know about and I dont.

I have just written a letter to both the gym and the mobile insurance requesting to cancel.

And I am having a look at the incapacity, but i dont know how he will take that as a sugestion. but i will sugest it to him.

Its just the extra income really, because i think other than the gym, the mobile insurance, the extra mobile which ended this month, and the car tax mot and ins.

I think even if he gets another job its only gonna be enough to make up for the bills on top of my wage. we then have no money to pay the debts off.

  • could you not take a mortgage break? or change your mortgage to interest only til you sort yourself out
  • Mortgage and loan breaks are out of the question, have already attemped this. Interest only would be £665 per month, so that is a possiblity

So cancelled gym £60 per month
cancelled mobi ins £5.99 per month
    cancelled mobile £30 per month
put off can ins, tax mot £100 per month
mortgage to interest only £100 per month

    £295.99 per month saved.

    £1817.84 outgoings to £1521.85

Which is then £321.85 over what i earn.

Hi, could he not pick up some casual temping work for xmas - even bar work would help. I don't mean to sound harsh and I know he has his health issues but you working more will not be good to your health or relationship either!
