Talk Talk Contract Name and Cancellation Fee Issue

So I've had a very love hate relationship with talk talk and internet in general, however when i moved into my flat last year, i was lumped with the internet bill in a shared bills group of 4. The internet contract however was kept under the original occupiers name. She simply changed the account details and contact info to mine and the money just came out. Silly of me i know. However upon deciding we didn't want to be with talk talk anymore, we found out they automatically enroled us into another contract at some point, meaning that we incured cancellation fees of over £100.
Now, the bills, emails sent to MY email account and letters have always said the previous ladies name, as soon as my last monthly bill was paid to them i cancelled the direct debit to my account. Meaning they can not charge me anything. But with all corrispondence being addressed to HER, and not legally being allowed to open another persons post, can i simply tell them that i am not the account holder and legally it is not my problem?

You have been paying them yes and the account info is in your name .Plus you have enrolled in another contract without TT agreeing to cancel .

Be carefull as cancelling a DD may trash your credit record for six years and debt is passed to debt recovery .
Its your name and bank account TT have as above .
Suggest you seek proper Legal Advice .
Try your local CAB .0 -
They only had my email address and bank account, the name was still the same.
So it has never been to 'me' personally. we cancelled and switched to vodafone without any fee's and it was switched over fine? However i cancelled the direct debit because the contract was up? then they tell me these bills will be charged0 -
Hi WifiPleaseWork,
Did you complete a change of ownership when you took over the services?
Thanks
