On a slight tangent for this thread but made me think of it.

I have a couple of storage units that have old stock and stuff I can't be bothered selling any more. I'm in the process of sorting through it and shipping it out. I really can't be bothered selling clearance on Ebay and Facebook or similar sites fill me with dread.

Anyway I've got a couple of pallets of Christmas stock. It's all perfectly new and clean just not stuff I can sell within what I do now. So I called a local auction house that handles similar stock. I was told that they aren't "doing Christmas". Apparently they've just had Christmas stock and it didn't sell. They asked if I had anything else. I was flummoxed and said if they couldn't sell Christmas they couldn't sell anything else I had. I didn't even get to telling them what it was.

When I was in the auction business I'd have snatched someone's hand off for a couple of pallets of Christmas stuff in August/September.

So I've now decided to repack it, list it on Amazon and ship it to their fulfillment centres.

Strange auction house. One of the ones I frequent, a 'better' one which is also online for sales recently had Christmas stock. I logged in to watch the auction thinking I might put a lowball offer in on some of the Christmas things only to see it double the estimate. The savvy traders are buying it now ready to list when the school holidays end. Selfridges in London apparently already have their Christmas shop open.

I really wanted those musical Santa centrepieces as well , they were so kitsch and 'American' that they were almost tasteful again - I particularly wanted the one with the little train that went round Santa :rotfl:

Yes, it's still baffling me. I didn't even get to say what type of Christmas items they are before he said "No Christmas".
From my days in the auction trade there's only two or three months that it is harder to shift. Weirdly I always did well with Christmas stuff in February. Admittedly it's quite a different trade these days but not quite so radical to want Christmas abolished!
