I hate Facebook marketplace, just full of people wanting things for nothing, everything I listed got responses of 'will you take x amount' (usually half the asking price or less)' I always responded 'no' to which I then got a load of abuse for.
My daughter recently gave something away on there for it then to be advertised for £100 On the same site the following day!
I will stick to eBay and charity shops!
It can be very difficult to wade through the people who mess you around, but I actually do well on marketplace. ON a busy weekend I can have 6-8 if not more successful sales, more than half get posted and the rest collected. Even during the week I usually get a few sales , it's just a shame that some people waste time pretending they want something then suffering from endless broken down cars or sick children that prevent them from collecting.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Had a pine bookcase with some water damage on the back put it on for free to collect
6 yes 6 no shows and a load of stupid questions that would have been answered had they taken the time to look at the pictures and read the description
Today I had one last attempt before taking it to the recycle center but instead of free put £2
Within an hour it was picked up and paid for
Think from now on I will try and get some cash first before giving things away0 -

This is exactly what I do!
Free stuff attracts time wasters.
If you put a low price on it you are much more likely to get reliable bargain hunters!
(I then just tell them to give the money to charity!)Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
This is not an issue but I found it interesting - it has happened to me several times on ebay as well with Best Offers. I put an item up on FB marketplace yesterday (for sale, not for free) and it was obviously more popular than I thought as I had about 12 responses - most the generic 'is this available' but a few making an offer. However several people said they wanted it posted and could I send a quote - so I responded to everyone either with a quote for postage, or saying I wouldn't take an offer.
Two of the people making offers came back with a slightly higher offer but one of the people wanted it posted came back with a firm yes at full price asking for my paypal details. Sent my details across, got immediate payment back and then sent a generic 'sorry this item has now sold' to everyone else.
This morning I have a rather nippy email from someone whose offer I had declined saying 'SOLD??? WHAT ABOUT GIVING ME A CHANCE- I HADNT DONE MY LAST OFFER YET-WHO DID YOU SELL IT TO AS I WAS FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!'
Nope love, it doesn't work like that, sorry (and they weren't even the first responder either)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Some of the local fb groups I use to shift old stuff out of the house for free tell you that you MUST give it to the first person who asks for it.
I was giving a load of old craft stuff away and the second person who replied was someone I knew who ran a kids club. So I gave it to her. If the people running the site found out they could get very angry.
People on fb are nuts, especially the local groups. As of 24/11/2020

That's why I tend to avoid selling via the groups and use marketplace instead. I found that some groups were quite cliquey , if one of the favoured few even liked a photo they claimed it was theirs even if they did nothing else for hours and never even said yes please. Even if a regular makes an offer which I decline and the very next person says yes please at full price admin will make passive aggressive comments about how everyone should be treated fairly, and sellers should give those making an offer a chance to consider things in case they decide at some later point to pay full price.
Marketplace is much easier (assuming your item doesn't fall foul of the increasingly daft restrictions) as seller has total control.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. One time I moved house, I was trying to give away a less than 2 year old sofa, a double divan bed frame, again less than 2 years old, and a washing machine. All the items ended up dumped as I ran out of time....Left on the street with a massive "FREE - PLEASE TAKE" sign on each. In fairness, they did all get taken.0

Not mine this time but from a local group I belong to.
X is dismantling an old prefab concrete style garage, shows a picture of it inside and out, and also a photo with his car to demonstrate the size (Obviously for those who can't read the full and precise description). States the size of the dismantled panels , gives approx weight and says he had to hire a low loader to get the garage in to his property a few years back and whoever wants it will have to do the same. The description covers everything and mentions a few times it is free but must be collected .
It starts of fairly normally with questions like 'how much?' And then several 'how big is it' .he responds politely.
It then deteriorates a bit as the day wears on with more and more 'how big' questions and where are you- he starts putting a cut and paste response 'it's all in the description'. Then the 'I'll have it' posts start , followed by 'can you deliver tomorrow ' , X refers them to the description, this does shut some people up but a couple of more persistent people carry on 'yeah the description looks great mate, exactly what I want, so can you deliver tomorrow?. X is now getting peeved and the cut and paste response now has swear words in it, but still people are asking how big it is, whether X will deliver to,other end of country and also a few 'reckon this will be OK on the roof rack of my Mondeo ? Type posts. There's also a few 'is the car really free mate? If so I can collect tomorrow.
X has now just posted to say he is removing the post and would rather spend a year breaking it up with a sledgehammer for a rockery rather than bother dealing with the idiots locally. This is followed immediately by a few more posts asking whether x can deliver if he was bunged a bit for petrol, and also 'how big is it?'
Somewhere locally there is a really cross bloke looking to buy a very big sledgehammer.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
