The bit I don't understand is why the bike owner's insurance has been cancelled, and why he can't use it to get the bike free.

The other mate, the uninsured rider - fair enough. He was riding uninsured, the bike's been impounded, he's facing an IN10.

But the keeper, who has insurance on the bike to cover himself? Surely he just rocks up, shows his policy, pays the penalty (handing the bill over to the idiot later), and rides home...

There's more to this, isn't there...?

But the.original policy may not include cover of seized vehicles.

They list motorbikes in the "type of vehicle" so should be available for him assuming he has a full licence?

Van or trailer comes to mind, no (bike) insurance needed there surely.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

Impounding costs a lot of money every day - quickly find a "man and van" or "man and trailer" to collect/deliver soonest. It's just a 125, so easily transportable.

A man with a van wont help the insurance matter.

Indeed it won't. Having been seized for No Insurance they will not release it without a valid policy in place.

Apparently no one wants to insure him so how the hell is he meant to get it out then... Police are being very unhelpful as well

    On the contrary.
I would say that the police have been very helpful to the law abiding members of society as they have taken an uninsured vehicle off the road.

It's not their fault that the owner of the motorbike can't get insurance to enable it to be released.
