Hi
A question for the electricians on here.
I am getting quotes to replace an old fuse wire box in my one bedroom house (6 way). I have narrowed it down to two quotes, both self-employed with good customer feedback and same price. One uses an MK unit, the other uses a Schneider. Your thoughts on whether one make is better than the other?
Thanks in advance.

Schneider seems to come out on top.0 -
Cheers Shaun. Both electricians are really nice guys with equally good feedback and the same price. I'm torn between the two so maybe the make of the unit will be the dealbreaker.0

I'd go for Hager.0

I am in the same position - would you mind telling me the quotes you have as I think I am being quoted alot for this job but have no comparables. How much do people think this should cost? Thanks.0

Between £300 and £350 for an 8 way Schneider unit (6 connected, two spare) That's in Glasgow, Scotland. I paid £320 and that came with certificate and the electrician also fitted four lights for me.0

I am on outskirts of London/home counties - been quoted £695.0

Oooft! So almost double the price. I got 4 or 5 quotes and they were all between £300-£360. The cheapest isn't necessarily the best, especially when it's electrics. Maybe ask friends or neighbours if they can recommend someone that they have used?
I'm in a one bedroom and the work took around 2 hours, if your house is bigger that might put the price up.
Good Luck0 -
I got quoted £300-400 for a very similar job as part of a kitchen re-design, South East. Not sure which brand they are using however.0

We had to have our old unit replaced about 5 years ago when we had a conservatory built. Cost then was about £250.0

I think personally thats a lot (IMO). I live just north of London in Herts (10 miles north of the M25) and had my 10 way Consumer Unit changed in a day. Was a family friend whos an electrician but for approx £80 for the unit, I wouldnt of thought £600 for labour, unless of course theres a lot involved like moving its location, replacing or extending cables etc0
