                    Hi all,
I'm going to Dublin with a friend at the beginning of Dec and we are flat broke.
We didn't budget for the trip and got the flights cheap on the spur of the moment. Anyway, are still really excited about going, but won't have as much money as we would have hoped.
Can people please recommend free/cheap things to do - she hates all things cultural, like museums, arts and sightseeing.
I like this stuff but am happy to compromise. Obviously we'll do some shopping but I'd like to do a bit more and have a better experience than just wander around dept stores.
Accomodation is sorted it's just our iternary that isn't!!!!
Thanks

You will need to get your friend to compromise as well and visit some attractions that you will be interested in as shopping when broke is hard work indeed unless it was window shopping you are on about."Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0 -
If your staying for a couple of nights, then use hostels... i often pay only £9.00 per night for a dorm... they are really cool - and safe!
enjoy the craic!0 -

Yes accomodation is sorted we are staying with my friends friend who has just moved over there to be a teacher at a language school.
She's only been there a couple of weeks and has loads to sort out so we didn't want to burden her too much, feeling like she's got to plan our trip and give us ideas. Also she's one of those..what's a bargain????? type..live for the moment and put it on credit.
Example..she wanted a green eyeshadow. it had to be max factor and was £6.99 in boots for a tiny square, the pound shop 5 mins down the road had a maybelline one - identical shade for a pound. She couldn't be bothered to walk down the road, to save £6!!! Madness.
Also, as she's going to be working doing private tuition so we need to be up and out - are just using her flat as a crash pad - but it's free which is fab.0 -
So, the Guinness Storehouse is out of the question then? Well worth a visit if you're into the black stuff and there's a "free" pint at the end of the tour. Book online to jump the queue and save 10%.
Can you tell what we did last weekend?

i went yesterday for the day
got off our 1p flight, and paid 4 euros for a day bus pass
went into dublin and to the boxy cafe on temple bar for brekkie, as i was meeting friends from all over england, who'd booked the penny flights.
has breakfast cost 8euros
did a bit of shopping, then got the open top bus, but it was cold.
Fella said 12 euros we just haggled with him and ended up paying 7 euros.
had a nice time on the bus, back into dublin, went to temple bar for a drink, then of to an italuan for a 3 course meal for 20 euros.
then back on bus and home at midnight.
ive been dublin loads of times, but never for a day.
i'm of in 2 weeks time with the girls staying for 2 nights.
enjoy your stay0 -
If you're gonna do the Guinness Storehouse - do book online to beat the queues, you may as well do kilmainham Jail since it's in the same area.

If you want a day out of Dublin get the DART to Howth and have a wander around... have a look at Howth castle.0 -

Just depends how you look at it. We watched a rugby match (the main reason for our visit), which my "boys" lost.
We also had a good mooch around St Stephen's Green, Merrion Square etc. Oh, and the National Gallery of Ireland is free to get into, but your friend isn't into culture. Shame as it's quite good.
Our evening was finished off by eating a Thai meal. Typically Irish!!!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 #18 £2021.83 declared0 -
Im taking my 13yr old daughter in January for 4 days. We are staying at the Quality Hotel in Cardiff Lane. No meals are provided and I wondered if anyone can recommend good places to eat for us. We enjoy pub meals and if we get a good breakfast we can last until teatime Im guessing. Any ideas where is nearby at reasonable cost?Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0
