    If you are concerned, get a qualified electrician to do an electrical condition report. They aren;t cheap, but are pretty thorough, they even test the insulation properties of the wiring etc., stuff you can't see. They will list things according to whether they are dangerous (C1), potentially dangerous (C2), needs-doing-soonish-but-I-can't-remember-the-exact-phrase (C3), or needs further investigation (FI). As other people have said, the box itself isn't totally ancient or it would have wire fuses, so that's a good start.
    As iammumto says, the box may be of a completely different age to the wiring, which itself may well have been done at various different times....
