Any good mobile deals for students???(18yo)

Hi

Thanks to all for all the help and advice on many issues recently.

My son's looking for a good mobile deal for his first - eigtheenth birthday - one. Has anyone seen a good deal for students/18 year olds?

On his wish list is 300-500 minutes and 300 ish texts (or more if the price is right).

He can do cashback (I'd help him with that) and he would like a new phone thrown in. Nothing too flash, but if it's got bells and whistles so much the better (and shiny too!). But a decent quality phone is all he's after.

If anyone's seen any particularly good offers or a company that's given good service recently please let me know.

Cheers to all!!

  • Thanks Browntoa - I must have been looking at another board when I posted it!

  • With cashback there are deals out there but be warned they are very very strict terms so I avoid them these days, used to do loads. Most now are that if you miss one out of 4/5 claims then you void the whole lot (so lose hundreds of pounds). If you think you have the organisation and determination to force payment then take a look around sites like e2save.com to see what they have on offer.

    Otherwise:
For the sort of package you are after I would recommend 3 as giving good deals direct from their website:

Mix and Match 500 - £18 per month for 18 months, decent phone for free like the nokia 6120 (nice phone & lots of features) or ericcson k800i, £37.50 quidco, £30 refer a friend (pm me if you go for this and need a referral), free bluetooth headset by entering a code.

Mix and Match 700 (probably more suitable) - same as above but £21 per month with £62.50 quidco back.

Mix and Match = any mix of texts and minutes, i.e. 350 mins 350 texts (M&M700).
  • Thanks for this - I was considering a cashback contract for him but after reding a few more of the threads on here, I'm not sure its a sensible thing to do.

    Are none of them reliable???

  • e2save and phones4u are fairly reliable but they do muck up sometimes, there is ambiguity about when to send in the bills sometimes, and the terms are really strict.

For example if you had a bill go missing in the post that could be bye bye £500 odd as you then don't get the bill to them in time and so forfeit all your claims.

Lots of people still do take out these contracts with the above companies just beware that it will be a lot of work and some risk that you could lose money...
