Shenzhen Airlines blaming weather, how to appeal?

Hi all,

We were delayed by 17 hours on a flight with Shenzhen airlines recently. I used the template letter to contact them and they replied immediately to say it was because of bad weather.

Every other flight left London on time whilst we were at the airport but our flight was over 2 hours late which meant we missed our connection. They did put us up for the night without fuss but we ended up being 17 hours late with no food or water overnight and put in an area with no means to obtain cash or purchase any.

I just wondered if anyone else has had any success with this airline? By all accounts this route is very often delayed so I thought it could be likely. I also wondered whether anyone has had any luck appealing the weather response?

I contacted Bott for ease but they’ve said because they’ve had no previous dealings with them and they don’t have a UK address they won’t take it on.

Any advice gratefully received.

Hi hanb,

It sounds like you are due compensation according to the EU261 regulations but, as Botts have highlighted, it will be difficult forcing them to pay up if the have no address in the UK to serve a writ.

You could look them up at Companies House but I assume Botts will have already done that.

Thank you! I guess I’ll respond and hope for the best although I don’t hold much hope, I’m not sure what else I can do. I know people have had joy with air China and these are a subsidiary but guess that makes no difference
