  • Next month's mortgage payment places me I think 2 years ahead of where I should be. This is addictive

Down to £95k. It's more rewarding watching it build up now but also getting harder to keep at it the way the world is going. But now ahead of where I should be end of year 6 and it's only a couple of months into year 4

You are doing great, keep it up! Even a small overpayment is still an overpayment. Do what you can, don’t pressure yourself! I agree with you, overpaying can be very addictive!

  • Should have said last it was year 3 not 4. I'm now 3.5 years in. Down to £92.5k now. £1k away from where I should be end of year 7 according to the overpayment calculator. Starting a new job soon so it might have to change but hopefully not.

  • This is amazing ;) Well done you are smashing it.

Have you tried Tilly Tidies (TT) to get OPs moving even faster  and makes you feel like you are winning every day?
TT's are where you daily or weekly round down bank accounts to the nearest zero eg  a balance of say £102.30 and then move 30p or £2.30 over as a TT)  You can then send it to OPs direct or in a TT pot and move it over weekly.

I picked it up on here and it does give one a feeling of forward motion even if its just 30p. Plus it means I look at what else I spend each day given I am focusing on  saving 30p ;) Plus its 30p off principal you will never pay interest on again.
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Thanks, I have heard of that but I use a similar system as part of my "treat yourself" savings so save towards things I would never normally buy but want.

  • New job started last month. Still managing the overpayments. £90107 left. Might pay off £108 to be under £90k by end of year 🤣
